Bus - worth the time and money to fix?

Came across this bus. I'm no expert - what do you think it's worth (to make an offer). It looks like a T2, but I've got no idea what year. Surface rust and some body filler along the sides, but NO motor and NO gearbox - I only saw the side shafts hanging loose from the wheels.

Long term project maybe?

I have seen worse restored.Rust looks like it just on the surface, although around the bottom of the windscreen it could be worse.

If you could get it for very cheap,it might be worth it.

Interior also looks complete,

Should take about as long as the DarkSide to complete!

if you can get it for almost nothing, then it would be worth it.................like a few hundred.

Nothing is beyond salvation...TS proves that.

At the end of the day, it's up to you.

I HATE sacrificing cars, although I have done it.

That looks worthwhile to me via the photos.

Just think, if they're not leaving, they're getting scarcer. ;)

Guy wants R1000.00.

wiki identifies it as T2a - pre 1972 bay. Is this right?

How difficult is it to get spares since there's no gearbox or motor?

Yup, that is a pre-'72.

If there are NO discs up front, it's a pre-'71.

Talk him down a bit...see what he'll go for...800? Maybe even less.

Bay' parts are still able to be found...I have a set of suspension and gearbox, but sorry mate, they're not for sale. Look around though.

Engines can be found everywhere...just depends how much you want to spend on them.

Hi Chris

I see yur staying in PE - so its probably all rusted up and full of holes? :D :D
How about a pic?

Merlin

A fully restored bus like this would then be worth about ...........?
I'm just trying to get my head around to cost of repair vs value after restore.

Mate,

It's hard to say...in ZA especially, there is no market value for our dubs.

There are huge discrepancies between all the cars sold.

I can never say accurately what a car can sell for, when asked.

In all likelihood, you'll spend more resto'ing it than what you'll it for, especially if you want something semi-decent.

With a running car, there are three options...

1. Get the mechanicals running properly.

2. Do a 'cheap' resto...ie: a 'for sale' resto, or with a bit more cash, a car you'll live with.

3. Go balls out and spend an absolute fortune.

EG for #3 : My bug...I could buy a Yaris, in cash, for what I've spent underneath my bug...it's all new, all upgraded, and done to perfect spec.

There's not a chance in Hell I'll ever make back even half of what I've spent on it so far...and this option is not specific to ZA.

An early Bay' Kombi here? In decent running condition? I'd reckon 30k...but as stated, that's up for debate.

I don't mine spending the dosh on my cars, because they are exactly that - MY cars.

Make sense?

N. :)
