Downdraugt on a stock motor

hey guys ive got two downdraugt weber carbs...like the ones on the al the fast bugs...but iv got a 38 and a 42.i want to know can i put one of them on a stock motor?wil it make any difference?the 38 is a 38dcnl4 carb...is it any good?

The Dcnl is a a fairly old carb from the 60's, the 42 is it a DCNF? If jetted correctly with the right venturies any carb can be made to work. I have found that 2 smaller twin carbs will work much better than a much larger single center mount carb. Just recently I did this change, from a single Weber 36 DCD to twin Solex 34's, much, much better.
Remember that those older carb parts (jets, venturies) are hard to come by, and are not cheap, a Weber jet now costs R30 to R40.
Try get twin carbs they work much better, a set of 32 or 34 solex's will work great on your 1600
