Nice one, once again Chris!

Merry Christmas to everyone and have a great New Year. I hope for all the guys that had some setbacks in 2008, that 2009 will be a turnaround year. Remember how bad it might go, you always have friends in the ACVW community.

Wow!!!

It has been an eventful couple of weeks.I had the pleasure and honour of meeting a lot of members on this forum.People I have not yet met before like Beetlefanatic,Sambadus,Dutch Diver,Buggyfan,Blitzkrieg and others. Please forgive me if I forgot who else I have met,but I met a lot of you.

Other people I met isn't part of the forum like Bonny,Ilke and Helmut and his wife Barbara,Jan,Marius and Quinsley,Marlow and his father, but some of you know them and I had the oppertunity to spent time with all of you and to all of you I say thank you.We are truly blessed with the people of this community. You all made me and the other guys feel welcome.

If something stood out it was the friendship and comeradery of the ACVW people.Nothing was too much to ask,and nothing was to much effort when Murhphy struck, and it was time to lend a helping hand. And I'm not only talking about the week I spent with the guys on the George challange, but also the weeks preceding that.

Money can buy stuff and pay the bills, but it can never buy friendship and family. Some of us has been hard hit by the current economic woes, others had some bad luck and have lost their jobs and savings. But it wasn't all bad news.ZeroAxe had an addition to his family and so has Rabid Ant.May the little ones bring you lots of joy.Suzie is starting a new job tommorow and has to move to Pretoria.I wish you well my friend and it was good seeing you again.Eben also started a new job and I hope you enjoy it.

Ron and Beetlefanatic is heading back to their jobs in far off countries and I wish you a safe trip and may the weeks pass by fast so that you can join your friends and family again on a well deserved break.Tony is already back in SA and is currently spending some time with his folks in Johannesburg before heading off to Capetown to spend some time on his Bug.Welcome back.

I want to thank Fig and Gisela for putting together such an awesome event like the George Challange and the KKKak.This year there hasn't been as much cars as last year, but it still was a great turnout and a huge succes.Forcecooled unfortunately didn't make it this year because he felt a bit under the weather.Hope you are better and hope to see you next year, but it was nice having Wayde there.Vuyo and the rest of the Beetle club was also there and they had a great time by the look of things.

As for the George Challange,I was expecting some trouble along the way.But getting into our cars, and heading off on our trip and then having fig getting stuck without fuel 1.4 km's up the road was quite funny. Then Bugger's Bus died and there we were, jumping batteries and using gerry cans to get going.

For the most part the trip was trouble free, but Helmut had a slow puncture that needed reparing,Pine had a blow out and needed a new tyre.Fig's bus broke a carrier fork on the gearbox and also had a seized genny, but once in PE,we found the right parts after three visits to a local spares shop, and we were mobile again.I had the Buggy jack-knive on me,and it smashed the rear bumper on the Jetta, but nothing serious.Marius lost a hubcap on his Beetle near Gamtoos and just outside Humansdorp I lost a hubcap on the Notch but found it fortunately. In Uitenhage,Bugger's bug had a fuel pump that failed and had to be towed back to the airfield were the trailer was.But he more then made up for the breakdown when he left some serious tread marks in Mead street in George.

We had lots of fun on the road as well.Pine stopped in every town to look for koeksisters, and Bugger stopped in every town to look for replenishment for his dwindling stocks of Red Bull and whiskey. He was like the Duracell Bunny that swallowed the Energiser man.Helmut kept us entertained with his stories about the staunch and sometimes ridiculous German police. In Uniondale I realised my tent disappeared and had to share a tent with Pine.Needles to say that that was the hardest ground I ever slept on and he kept me awake with his snoring.

There are a few people I would like to thank.Hitler's Revenge,SambaOwner,Dirk,Dutch Diver, lowlight, TonyZ,Ladybug, Bugger,Pine, fig,Gisela,Vader,Beetlefanatic and Bob.You guys made this trip possible and I appreciate all your help and friendship. You guys are what real friends should be.

Gerhard for opening his Museum for us,Emile and Yvonne from the Toy Museum,Johan Wagenaar from the Auto Pavilion,Zak that was our tour guide at the VW plant,Barbara that made coffee,Lucy for helping to find fig's parts,Uncle Tommy that helped with advice on where to find the right parts in PE,Neville that welcomed us in PE where we stayed, the guys from Capetown that met us in Uniondale,Eugene,Hennie and Christo and for all the wifes and girlfriends that wasn't with us on this trip.

For everyone that missed out on this adventure this year, try to do it next year.It was truly a great experience and one I will do again. We are recognised by the company we keep and the friends you have, and I truly can be proud of all of you.

I'm looking forward to the next trip.
