The chassis is imported, thus there is number stamped onto it for registration purposes.

The car also has no papers.

Am I getting myself into trouble here?

How hard/costly is it going to be for me to get this thing onto the roads legally?...

If you have no scraping papers it will be almost impossible to get it back on the road legally, that is what has probably happened to the dude who is selling it to you, You need to make friends with someone who owns a scrap yard.

I've been thinking more and more about this.

The guy has another buyer who wants it for racing, and as much as I'd hate to let it go, I think that may be the only way that thing ever drives legally again.

He's got NO papers at all.

...at any rate, I'm going to see a ragtop bug which is probably overpriced, but if it's nice I may take it.

...on that note, how common are ragtop bugs in ZA?
