Aircooled VW South Africa

I have started the assembly of Nic (aka) Merlin's little monster, 86,5 bore, 76,4 stroke.
Plenty pics to come, watch this space.
List of parts collected
Alighned bored and refaced AS 41 block clearanced, done by me.
Metal Leve main bearings 0,06" OD & standard ID
86.5 Mahle pistons & rings, stock OEM sleeves 0,04" oversize
CB Perfomance 76,4 CW crank, 8 doweled with lightened matching flywheel
Camtech C35 reground cam, 276 deg 9.5mm lift @ cam
Refaced and parkarised OEM cam followers
35x32 heads ported by me with 49cc chambers for a 8:1 CR
Stock rods clearanced, done by me.
Some work done pics to follow.

I've no idea what all of that is, but damn, it sounds sexy.

What would the power be like compared to a mildly modified 1700 Type 4 engine

CC fot CC a T1 will be more exiting than a T4, I now others may have their views on this one but the T1 will put a bigger smile on your face.
T4 head design can't flow as well as T1 head, simple as that.

Sounds like a bundle of fun engine with good reliability worked into it.
Odd size I must admit, would love to see how it runs.

My first 1776 redlined at 8000rpm with stock rods and a scat c65 cam. Was fun to drive and everyone thought it was a rotary with the noise at high rpm.

Something like that. I ran a counterweighted 69mm crank with a 3kg flywheel, all balanced off course. Twin 40mm idf carbs. Ran like an absolute dream and made 70kw on the wheels in JHB.

parkarised = surface hardening
OEM = original German part

How do I go about doing that? and who would be able to do it?

And what implications would this have on the push rods? Would you need to upgrade to Chro-Mo push rods or will the originals suffice??

for an original engine, origianl parts will work fine.

Hey 4agedub, 3 kg flywheel, how did you get it that light was it a aly. item? Shit that is light, must have gone from 1000 to 8000rpm in the blink of an eye.
I had a FW done that looked like swiss cheese and it was 4.7 kg's not much more could be done, I think.
