Hi,

I want to biuld myself a proper a -frame for my beetle and was wondering if someone can help out with dimensions, specs or pics. I was thinking of using exhaust pipe and bend it where needed adding the needed brackets and cross supports etc, or will it be to weak for this purpose.

P.S. I hate towing it but the fuel $$ is a problem . . .

Thanks in advance.

Hehehehe a few Sundays ago I had one very scary experience with an A-frame, but if you make one up using proper steel etc, it should last a long while

We towed my white fasty from Orkney to Pretoria (thanks Pine!!) using an A-frame with no hassles whatsoever

Rather spend the time and build yourself a trailer.

Hi,

Yes a trailer can work better but big $$ and I heard that it is difficult te register home made trailers these days. I will think about it, maybe an better option. Any Plans, pics of trailers??

If what you want is the towing atachment for a beetle that hooks up at the front beam, I have plans. What format do you want them in? What type of hitch is on the car? Ball? of pintle?

Trailers especially home made are a drag to get through roadworthy and it's another license to be taken out on yearly basis. Nice strong A-frame, yup thats how I'd go.

This is the one that I make. It is made from 1-1/2" or 40mm water pipe. works good.

Your friend put in the right cross braces, you should be save with it.
Here is the thread of the A-Frame I made, but upgraded it to be able to tow beetle or bus.

Will be putting the drawing up on the above thread for others soon.

Or if others want one, will get my welding guy to make up some....

Incidently the frame was made up also by Herman, but Herman in Kempton :)

So if there are JHB based members here in need of this I am sure he will be able to assist, he does this kind of manufacturing. I have no clue as to what it would cost.

Hi Wentzel, I have both basic frames, one for the beam attachment and the other for the front bumper bracket attachment, you're more than welcome to borrow and copy, one 1 condition though - he-he, You have to come with your turbo bug lol. Just joking but you're still welcome.
