BRAKES

Ever since I got the car back from the mech, the brakes have been binding terribly. Especially when driving around for a while. I read quiet a bit on the subject  some okes had some bad experiences.

Anyway the car is at Robbie ( Beetle man in PMB )

He is doing all 4 linings - 1 wheel bearing - 2 seized hoses for R1100. Price sounds fair to me.

Is there anything else I need to look out for? Hope she comes right, the binding is the most annoying thing. :x

Lots of moola this bug is costing me

Regards

Binding brakes are often caused by aged flexible brake hoses, which start to behave like a one-way valve. This can also be caused by insufficient play between the brake pedal pushrod and the master cylinder.

If you need to replace one of the flex hoses, I would replace all of them. Likewise, I never replace wheel bearings except as axle sets -- if one side needs replacing now, the other will likely soon follow.

Unless you're building a high-performance Beetle or live on a mountain pass, the stock brakes, when correctly set up, are quite adequate.

The brakes are actually quiet good. This was before I sent it for a service. Should be even better now.

Getting the car back today - cant wait. Hope that binding issue is sorted.

I am trying to keep her as standard as possible. One mod leads to another and is a costly affair. Before my bug I had a twincam turbo. Learnt a good few lessons

I have exactly the same problem of binding brakes on my 68 beetle which started after it came back from a service. I am in Centurion and need to get hold of someone who will be able to give advice of how to fix or where I can go to to get the problem straightened out. The binding is most annoying and very frustrating.
