hey guys i know this is a popular conversion but what i want know is do you have to buy that kit?or can you d.i.y?and if you can shed some light about hiccups i have to look out for?

Yes you can DIY but it'l probably cost you double what the kit cost i have to make a plan to fit disc to my bus now because the beetle kit does not fit i would rather have bought the kit with everything i need than run around modifying everything.
So my advice is go and buy the kit , get the master cylinder,calipers,discs,pads,bearings and caliper brackets all the hard work has already been done its just bolt on !

Are you gonna do all 4 wheels. I did the fronts and then later did the rears. I was very happy with the way the fronts turned out and I also just used the standard beetle master cylinder. When I decided to do the rears all sorts of problems arose. With all round discs you need the dual master cylinder. It was a b#tch of a job to fit the golf dual cylinder as there is just enough space for it to fit. I had to put my brake light switch up against the tunnel, so you can imagine, if the switch fails I will have to pull the master cylinder. It was very difficult to bleed all 4 disc brakes and I ended up using a bicycle pump and a tiny compressor to blow the air out and the brake fluid in. If I had to do this again I would only do the fronts and use adapter plates on the rear. All parts were golf and I got the front mounting plate from calooker. The rear set up I got from Dave Rowley and assembled myself.

Another way to get around the problem of not enough fluid getting to the reat disks is to use a split kombi master cylinder, which will push a lot more fluid than the beetle one and doesn't have the problems a golf dual circuit MC creates, More $$$ than a golf one but it's 100% bolt on.

thanx...im just going to do front...ive got a spare front suspension that My dad wants to play with it and he found out how to lower it aswell...just wanted to know if theres any big hiccups to look out for thanx...
