After looking around I've concluded that it's safer to convert the "spare-wheel-pressure" system with an electric one.
Does anyone have any suggestions/notes/comments regarding this?

You can also keep the original water bottle, and just add an electric pump in-line of the water pipe, and a switch on the dash.

Now that's what I was hoping for.
Any advice on retrofitting the existing push switch to work the pump?

Take all those pipe thinies off(ques work here) and try to fit those micro swiches at the back that you can push with the button? Thid is a long shot.

Guess it will be possible but in the process you will break a few switches...
Search on TheSamba to see if it has been done before?
