You don't get more customized busses

These busses are all used as game drive vehicles on our family game farm in the lowveld

From left to right: "Strawwes", "Kolle", "Breker"

Helga. (She was recently retired from active duty :( )

Kolle is our bus. I was learned how to drive with it  . Here the guys are out in the veld. The tires are old "mud and snow" rally tires :hangloose:

These busses are used in big five country. Ever watched lions as they come sniffing at a open door? :!: You'll also be surprised by what you can do with these LEGENDS when you have a 4 ton mad elephant mom coming at you!

Wow,they are seriously cool busses.

But why was Helga retired when she is clearly much younger than Kolle?

They had a lot of trouble with her. Bad upkeep. The owner also got a new bakkie to use as a game drive vehicle. Everything usable and original was stripped and sold to a restorer who needed the parts

Nope. They were cheap and reliable and simple 20 years back. We got kolle for R700.

Well you have to take into account that the owners weren't really big car fanatics. They just wanted cheap, reliable vehicles. And they were bought when there were many of these buses available as cheap second hand vehicles that werent all in good condition. There was no reason to restore them back then. It would have been like restoring a hi-ace taxi as a show car

20 years ago somebody gave me a 56 Oval left hand drive beetle in running condition for free. Those were the years when alot of things were taken for granted. Pity they are gone now.
