Hi All

I need some advice on converting my 1600TP baja to run electronic ignition, is the 1.9 Wasserboxer dizzy with the TCI unit the best way to go or should I retain the stock SVDA dizzy and use a ignitor module in it.I can get a Ignitor module here in Cape Town for R775 which seems a bit pricey.
Are the 1.9 Wasserboxer dizzys hard to find, i read they dont have the retard on #3 cylinder is that a problem.

there is a lot of info on this forum regarding this conversion. Do a search.

The waterboxer conversion is a good way to go and prob the best. With your engine, the #3 retard isnt needed.

I have a spare conversion kit the same as your ignitor you mention made by accu-volt (I think). Its prob the same as a ignitor anyway and much better than the EMPI unit. If you want it, I'll let it go for a lot less than R775... around 600, depending on what I paid for it, will have to check.

I use the 1.9 unit.... Well to be more accurate I have one but never got the Force running. If you go this route remember to get the wiring harness as with out it you gonna have problems.. These units aint easy to find, if you do find them buy them and then sell them here to the rest of the guys that want it.... You can also use the golf ECU with this unit..

Which is why I'm researching the possibility of using a Golf distributor.Cheap and easy to find, and it's directly compatible with a Gotech :)

Golf dizzy is cheap and easy to get, getting the work done to convert it to work in a ACVW motor is going to cost you twice as much as what the new China golf dizzy's cost. :bn:

I spoke to Mike from Distributor Rebuilding Centre in Centurion today,he charges R450 to convert it for use in a Type 1/Type 4 engine. But looking at Airpower's thread and from what Wentzel told me,it shouldn't be too hard to do it at home..you just need to get the rotor phasing right
