Got any advice on...

...replacing side mirrors?
At the moment my bug just has hinge pins in the doors, ie: no 'screw' on top for the mirrors...
I've got a set of hinge pins and mirrors to fit...
Who can give me some advice on how to remove the existing pins, and do any of you have the 'ream' tool or whatever it's called that I need to remove the existing pins?
Have you picked up on my lack of technical experience yet?
...yes, I'm, learning - slowly.
Thanks, N.

Are you trying to keep the bug completely stock or not? If you are not, get decent set of mirrors and mount them to the door.
mine are drilled into the door, dont know if you can make them out or not....

I had a set of Harley-Davidson mirrors for it - came with the car...
...but they're hideous.
I've sourced stock repros (pear-shaped) which I want to fit. They'll go with the car, which is not stock...
I want to fit those.

Trust me I tied in vain to replace the pins on a ride I owned, I tried to fix a sagging door. I shat my pants doing it, I totally stuffed up the top hinge, never again, even Volkspares would not do it even if I payed them, landed up having to get a new door, not a home job.

It's me - or the mirrors...

Any idea where I'd go to find someone with an impact hammer?
...it's not exactly something most people have lying around at Home, so I need to find an engineering shop or something...
PS: Getting a new set of headlights today...

...can't wait. My bank balance can...

"Impact hammer" or "air chisel".
The photos show a compressed air 'gun'.
Quoting a few TS threads...
I have an impact driver.
I'd like to take my bug to a pro shop to get it done, but I have nFi who could do that sort of thing for me...

OK, after struggling, I took the bug to a trusted VW w/shop...
I've just had a call...
The doors have to come off, after which they will be knocking the Sh!t out of the hinge pins to try and get the pins out...
If it does not work, then they try heat the area up with a blowtorch, and if that fails, it's time to cut the hinges off.
Can you say cringe? :/
How is it that my doors never had hinge pins - on either side?
Perhaps they are later doors with the holes closed up?
They do have the correct '67-only handles...
Whatever happens, the area needs t be resprayed which is a pity, as it is wasted dosh.
I was going to respray the whole car next year, and this will take away from those forthcoming savings. :/

all this for a set of mirrors.... Dude, sometimes plans have to change. ITs going to cost you, and you will probably have to replace a few things in the process, maybe the doors wont even fit after all the hacking they will do.

I don't really have a choice. I need mirrors, and the car needs a RWC urgently.
I did not want to drill holes into the doors, or fit floppys, etc.
