Aircooled VW South Africa

This is gonna be our first VW project.

We have done other projects like a Unimog 411-110 (Dad's), and Triumph Spitfire4 (Mine).

The Karmann Ghia is mom's classic, she saw it standing at a place and said she also wants a classic car, and the KG will do, because according to her it's a sporty beetle.

But i'm afraid we don't really yet know what we got for the car, because all the trimming and anything that came off was given to us in two big boxes and i don't think we got everything. All the windows are there though.

So all the help in the world would be appreciated from you guys that know. We are starting at sorting out the mechanics.

Oh the doors, bonnet and boot lids are all fitted, (that was the 1st thing i did) but it seems like we gonna need the latches for the door and door handles. Anybody know where we can get these?

That looks like a nice project car Korn. Good luck with the restoration. I wouldn't mind one of those in my garage.

I hope that you're going to put in an industrial Type 4 engine with an IMPI fan shroud conversion

Was the KG bought sprayed or was that the 1st thing you got done

We bought it sprayed, the guy did all the bodywork and then ran out cash, he even gave us some of the rust he cut out of the body , very nice sprayjob, I would think.

But as these things go, he gave us 2 boxes full of the stuff that came off the car, but a lot of the trimming is missing as well as stuff like door handles and dashboard goodies.

We decided we want to sort the engine out 1st before we start doing the other stuff, thats how we got to the 1800cc engines.

Speak to Didi and Greenbean they seems to have ghia spares and post in the wanted section for what you need
And yes the paint looks very nice

You got very lucky with that buy! Seems things are all in pretty good condition. Good luck finding some of those spares. They can be pretty hard to find.

Were also working on 'n KG, but a 1958 lowlight.

What's the details on the engine?

As you'll see under Offered, I found 39 Type 4 Industrial Engines, I'm probably gonna put one of those in the KG.

Glad you guys think the Ghia is a good find, because I was wondering if it was worth while for the price we paid.

With that 1800 Type 4, the Ghia should run forever! Type 4 power!!!!

Looking at the interior kick panels, that thing looks sweeeeeet.

Any tips or tricks for installing this guy into the KG??

Nice! Jack die Ghia se gat hoog in die lug op en maneuver die enjin van onder af boontoe op 'n trolley jack. Align die enjin met die 4 gate op die gearbox, en bout dit vas

That is one moerse technical engine dolly you got there! I can not emphasise how high you need to jack up the ass. It would be better(easier) if you can get it on a car lift! If you cant get the ass that high, at some point you will have to tilt the engine so that the fan shroud can clear the body work. IT is best to have 2 people do this job!
