Condolences to your mate on the loss of his bug.

Good work on the part of the witness, re: young whitey.

Any other details?

Any more details to pass around concerning the car, or perhaps contact details?

N.

i wonder, what kinds of bugs are being stolen?
Is it mostly 70's models? Is spread through out the range?

What could the motives be? I dont think that one would be in demand overseas (no offence mate), so why are these bugs being stolen?

Maybe to be striped for spares... not nice not nice at all.

Issues with this is that there is more then enough spares parts to be had, why go and steal a serviceable Bug to strip.

Bliksems moet teen n muur gesit word en geskiet word

That is shockingly similiar, Suz'. Let's not jump to conclusions though, so consider these photos of the referenced ad as a comparison only, until proven otherwise guilty.

There is no doubt that these muthers know what they are doing. I would imagine that the nice cars go out of the country (into Africa)and others are stripped for spares. There have to be a few dealers around that I wonder would take any parts offered, no questions asked.

What is needed is a think tank of a few of the VW guys that have been in and worked in the industry and might possibly know where these dodgy dealers are. That way, and with a bit of co-operation from the cops, these places would be checked out properly.

We also need to have an information page that informs people what sort of precautionary measures to take when building , or just owning a VW, like marking assemblies and components, recording casting no's and gearbox numbers, machine shop Job numbers, tyre numbers and so on.(Do any of us ever record any of these numbers?)

Like in the old days, when everyone marked tv sets, radios, hi-fi"s with an engraver, and then put a sign up outside saying ---"Our goods are marked"

Imagine , when building the car, you engrave your ID no. on the inside of engine and gearbox casings as well as alternators, generators , the inside of doors and panels, and so on, AND take photos of all these identifiers to keep on record.

I doubt if a thief would go to the trouble of taking a car that is obviously tastefully signposted to that effect - His chancees of getting nailed are huge over a car with only a chassis and engine no to get rid of.

BUT this will only work if the car or parts are spotted ---- The really concerning thing is that all of the cars that have been stolen this year seem to have dissapeared into thin air ?

We need to get to the "underground" informants with offers of money to squeal on the perpetrators.

Any Ideas, Guys ?
