If you phone 011 975 8011 today, you'll probably hear "Hello, Caesar's Palace, how can I help you?" That's where the Jurgens factory used to be :!:

I've been to their new factory in Ga-Rankuwa last year, it is HUGE. I asked around but they have no record of the Autovilla production figures - it is a total new generation of caravan builder working there now. I did however see the 1952 Jurgens caravan as used in this Steve Hofmeyr video:

 Pine, go to "travelstar.co.za". They do camper conversions. I see the names are Geert & Dickie Jurgens with their contact numbers. They are probably the sons of Mr Jurgens Snr who started the whole Jurgens thing! Maybe they know the figures :D

The Autovilla would have worked well on the Kemperink chassis.

Some of the very last Autovillas had a stretched long wheelbase chassis, making it at least a metre longer. Saw a picture of one advertised claiming to one of only 4 made.

Saw one on the road once, the difference is very obvious.

Kemperink lengthened the chassis by 900mm. They did bays and splitties. When VW started producing there own, the LTs, Kemperink went out of business. The Kemperinks were used as pick-ups, twin cabs, and also campers. They built about 2000 of them. Apparently the quality was not great...

Kemperinks were all based on a stretched pick-up chassis. They were mostly sold as pick-ups and as box vans built on pick-ups.

Most of the surviving box vans have been converted into campers.
