Well guys this fastback is still going strong
Would seam that all the bugs are out, and she is running well.
Would like to thank all the guys that had any part in the fastbacks resurrection from Gerhard, of Volksieshop, supplying me the base to start, to guys like Impi, Fig, Tony, Dave, and the more for input information to the guys that kept on motivating me, to the guys that just made "smart Alec" comments, you all had a part in making this project possible.
as there are so many, one just has to look at all the posts on this thread, to see who I thank from the bottom of my tool box........
Thank you and may your next projects be the best...

Not so sure how I helped, but whatever it was, I am sure it was a pleasure....
Glad you happy with the car. Enjoy the fun times ahead. Hopefully I'll see her in George (if they ever announce their dates).

Re: Not 1967 but 1968 Fastback now with twin weber 2000cc mo
Thanks for the kind words Dave.
The reason for the posting of an project, is tenfold.
It enables the others to see where you go wrong and help you right before it costs you right out of the project.
It keeps you motivated as the frustration, and cost sometimes make your "Wiele Pap"
It alows others to see what you need or should have and can then tell you where to get it or offer to sell you the part that you need
It also offers the 1st time project guy, some hard earned wisdom, that has been earned with high "school fees"
But mainly it allows you to relive the whole job, many times to motivate you for the next project.
Thanks again
Herman

Re: Not 1967 but 1968 Fastback now with twin weber 2000cc mo
As I have fitted a tow bar on to the Fastback, and as I have a heavy Type 4 engine that gravitates to the ground all the time,
I have got me some Coil Over Shocks, broke down, and paid the heavy price from Volkspares, oh well.
As I did not want to crash the engine into the tar, every bump, these coil-overs will do the job.
The 2nd reason is to get the Roller Skate out from under the engine, so I can loan it to HR for his Fasty.. ...
Bled the brakes just for security, as I have now done a 500Km since start up.
Now I hear you all scream ......... in one voice...... "what you going to tow with the Fastback".. ....?????????????????????
Well to find out, you will have to meet me at George....... .
See you there...

So the Fastback has made its 1st George Show.
Was a good run, performed well, and drove like a dream.
In fact it drove so well that my daughter has now decided that its her CAR
How much joy.
Will be taking it down again next year.

Hi guys,
Well the Fastback is still pride of joy here in the work shop, and still running fine
After a bad day, just sitting in her for a cup of tea, is all that is needed to take on life again.
As promised, here a few pics of the badges fitted to my Fastback
Copied them onto this thread, to keep them all in one place.
And NO, thats not rust, but reflections from the background.
Looks nice, need one more, thanks

So the Fastback has done her 2014 George show, there and back without any effort.
Ran well and also rescued a tow from Plett to George and back to PE.
Not bad ..... (very proud)

Squire, I know you told me you had Golf headlights fitted.
Was this a straight fit or did you have to make any mods.
Pictures if you did, thanks.

Re: Not 1967 but 1968 Fastback now with twin weber 2000cc mo
Sure,
On the later model Type 3 bodys, you will find 3 tabs welded onto the body on the lip of the Head light Hollow.
These are uniformly placed.
If you do not have these, you will have to bend some and spot weld, gas weld, or pop rivet them on 1st.
Then you buy the Golf ! semi-sealed head light, which comes with its light adjuster ring, and drill holes into this ring to match the 3 taps on the body, or the ones that you just fitted.
Refit your chrome ring, and job done.
Will see if I have photos of this fitting.
