2.1i into Beetle

Post by Beetlebuddies »

Here is some pics of motor we are putting into a '74 Beetle. Sorry there is no before pics, but here is some after it was stripped and sprayed. According to the guy we bought the motor from it is a 2.1 with 2.3 Oetinger conversion, ported heads and cam... :| Would like to start the motor, but it will happen in 2 weeks time.
Will post more once i have them...

Doing a disk brake conversion to the front for now. That should pretty much help the Bug to come to a halt.

Question? This is watercooled? So how will this work in a bug? Would you need to chop the bonnet for radiator vents ect? Is this a reliable mod? If so, bang on bud!

You should be VERY happy with that engine in the back. I had a 1.9 WBX in mine with a few mods and it went like crazy. Top speed was not that high because of the gear ratios, but it accelerated very well and had unbelievable torque for hills and overtaking. The 2.1 with FI should be even better.
The only hassles I ever had with mine was the radiator. I started with a nice aluminum rad from an Uno, but that was too small. I then swopped it for one from some diesel engined vehicle and then the problem were over.

Good luck with the conversion. Those colours look awesome. :hangloose:

Thanks dudes. Yes it means using water and modding all to fit a radiator and pipes and fans and the works. We are trying to keep the radiator at the back. Still looking into the possibilities to cut and fit, will keep you posted. Had 1.9 in one of my beetles aswell... The power is just amazing, and uphills becomes a downhill. You can actually pick up speed instead of rowing your way to the top.. :hangloose:

Here is some pics of the body and the chassis. This car was standing for about 16 years. The story about the motor is told on the forum aswell.

Here is some links to guys putting the rad at the back of the bug. Any feedback if it can or will work is more than welcome....From what i gather it is colder there than here, so for them it might not be a problem... :?:
