R350 for the roadworthy and I failed, some of the stuff that needs to be fixed is going to take a looong time, It needs to be finished by October or the license expires

These are the things that I need to fix:

1. The engine swap from VW a few years back means I need police clearance etc.
2. Idler arm play
3. Rear Tail light turns off when break lights go's on (didnt even notice myself)
4. Right front park light
5. I need a proper old vw kombi bulb because the beam of light is very skew.
6. Rust under front bumper
7. Body rust; the stupid guy said that all of the rust needs to be gone, every last drop or it won't be roadworthied which means I am pretty screwed to say the least

And one more thing, he didn't want to register it as microbus, only as a panelvan which I think means I can only carry passengers in the front???

They have to register it as a camper.

Do yourself a favour and go to one of the small towns and get a roadworthy there.

Yes I think that is a good idea, I will get the other stuff sorted but realistically the rust is not going to be gone anytime soon, its a long process

Try taking it to a different roadworthy place. AFAIK rust is only a failure point if it's structural; bubbling at the bottom of doors, etc, shouldn't be an issue.

A camper is a camper, not a panelvan. You need to find someone more intelligent and amenable for your RWC.

Don't any of the Cape Town guys have a favoured RWC place that likes VW buses? I have a guy in Jhb who could sort it for you ...

I agree, the rust shouldnt be an issue. Fix the other stuff and take it to a different station.

Number 4 & 5 fixed. So the real stuff that needs to be sorted before roadworthy now is :
1. The police clearance
2. Idler arm play
3. Tail light
4. Rust

Police clearance planned for Friday/Saturday morning
Probably going to start on the rust also on Friday ( Thanks to Barry!! ), but I don't think I will be starting on the bus just yet, rather practicing on other metal till I get the hang of it.
The tail light and finding a replacement idler arm/swing lever are going to be the next missions after getting the police clearance.

Other than the rust I don't think I have too much work for the roadworthy, it is definitely not going to drag on!

O ya before I forget, I also managed to get all my window and door rubbers because the old ones were quite leaky and ..old, I will be putting them in as rust is repaired in the appropriate sections.

Yes, went there and they cut the rubber and I was outta there in 15 mins, the guy also said he would help putting it in if I had problems

UPDATE: The engine is being stripped this weekend and then soon after that it should be fixed and ready to roll

Any updates on the Bus?

Barely any progress has been made, the engine will be finished this weekend and then the exhaust is being replaced next week so I could possibly get my bus back next Monday. When the exhaust was taken off it basically just broke apart thats why I'm getting a new one. All in all the engine and exhaust is going to cost quite a bit more than I expected, but I'm not sour about it, I'm actually quite glad the engine and exhaust are going to be basically brand new.

When I get it back I will post some photo's and then hopefully get it off to the roadworthy station!

Chris Nr 3 Tail light check the earth. Sounds like a loose conection or dry conection. Hope it helps

Is this an oil-bath air cleaner with cyclone pre-cleaner?
