In the one fictional book I read - the country puts the president in jail as soon as he's elected because "it saves the trouble of looking for him later on"
No THERE's a good policy!

For anyone that didn't vote,if you have an SA ID,pay taxes,which inturn is used to pay our very efficient gov's salaries,you contribute to this country by employing people or just paying your rates and taxes,you DO have a say,and the right to complain!!SFDT wrote:For those that did'nt vote. Re: elections 09
If you have shares in a company,and you aren't at the board meating to elect the company's next VP,and that guy squanders all your money,are you then not allowed to speak up?
I wish people would stop saying that.
If the goverment does what they want,takes my land,breaks down my house,I don't have a say because I didn't vote??
Rubbish!!

Re: elections 09
Of course you can complain... its just that no-one will have to listen. Election results need to be listened too. The more people that vote for a party that opposes policies that the voter doesn't like, the better chance there is of a change in policy. Its a mathematical fact. If you don't vote, you miss you chance to change the equation.

Re: elections 09
You guys are right, no one can force you to vote, it ultimately stays your choice, BUT, (there always is a but isn't there
)
If you are in a position where you have something to lose, (or stand to gain for that matter), then dont you think it foolish if you don't exercise that right?
What if some pivotal event in the elections - (like a 2/3rds majority), hinged on the whim of 100 000 apathetic voters? Would that not leave a sour taste in your mouth if you voted ? Like Chris's board member example, he's right, you can still voice your opinion even if you didnt vote at the shareholders meeting, but would it not be better to try and get the right people elected and avoid the problem in the first place? Pro-active vs Reactive perhaps?
It did seem that there were a LOT more voters out where I stay, last elections we were in and out in 10 minutes. This time round, the queue in our area did not drop to under a 45 minute wait. We caught it at about an hour, some people waited as long as 3 hours. Good to see so many people out exercising their right.
The above opinion is the opinion of the party involved, and not Aircooledvwsa. The internet bandwidth for this post was paid by the posting party. Enjoy the rest of the week all, only two days to the weekend.
