Re: elections 09
The way I see it if you had the right to vote and didin't do it then don't complain when things don't run to your liking.

For what it's worth, ignorance has no limits ......

Re: elections 09
It is my democratic right to vote.....
It is also my democratic right not to vote....
If I do not support any of the parties taking part then it is my right to spoil my vote which means I have stood in a line for 3hours and waisted my time and the persons time who has to check the votes and find my spoilt vote...
So instead of standing in line, spoiling my vote and wasting time just dont vote...
It has nothing to do with voter apathy, by not casting my vote for a party I'm still voting with my silence....
If I don't agree with the policies of the ANC, DA, IFP, ACDP, COPE, ID blablabla then who should I vote for? If there were two parties running in the election The Murderers and The Rapists, by making your mark for one of them you are supporting either murder or rape... Get the idea....
Why the F&CK do you think there is no voting in the Empire? You have a choice to live or die... Besides if they did vote I would just use the Force to change their minds anyway...

Re: elections 09
Sure you can complain all you like, but it just doesn't carry any weight with me. All I hear is noise...
I do not agree with Vader either, e.g. voting for the DA does not necessarily mean you support the DA, it means you want a stonger opposition to the ANC.
Whether you like it or not, paying rates and taxes and electricity is NOT supporting the country, it is paying for services. Whether those services are any good or not is beside the point (in this particular arguement).
Employing somebody is not supporting SA, it is exploiting someone and paying them to do a service for you, there is nothing honourable about it and you'd sack the person as soon as sneeze as soon as times get tough.
The democratic system (and I am NOT a supporter thereof by the way, certainly not in Africa) functions by virtue of the fact that the electorate votes. If you don't vote, you are rendering the process ineffective, it is through this that I say you are negligent in your civil duty if you don't vote. Same as you are negligent in your civil duties if you don't report a crime.
And that is all I have to say about that.

Re: elections 09
And whats with having so many parties to vote for???? There are way too many of them...
We could start our own party called ACVWSA Party or Airheads Party, all we need is 200 signatures to register for the election and away we go...

Re: elections 09
Your vote that you made was noise.Voting is only is very small part of the process.
In other countries like America, elections up to the day of the final results is a race.Nobody can realy say who will win. They don't vote for a strong opisition, they vote for the winner.
In SA that is all distorted. It is a foregone conclusion that one party will win,and one person will be president. My vote should be a say into the running of my country, and it is not.I might only hope that is enough to
If I'm not allowed to have a say into the running of affairs, and don't have the right to complain, then why do I need to have an ID book.Revoke my status as a South African, and kick me out the country.I'm useless to everyone.I don't contribute,I don't report crime,I don't help my fellow country men,I don't assist when help is needed by giving blankets and food for the needy,or help orphans.
My contribution to this country goes much further than one stupid vote that has no bearing on the outcome whatsoever. In most cases it is the only time that any South Africans contribute to this country anyway.Like going to church on Sunday, and doing what you like in the week.It is just to shut your concience. The rest of the time, you are not doing anything.

Re: elections 09
So,vote.I'm not saying you musn't.
I don't have to vote, but I'm sure as hell going to get upset if things are getting screwed up and I will speak up as well.I'm a citizen as much as any of you.
An election is just that. You ELECT someone. This "election" is about voting for someone to have a strong enough oposition, which is screwed up too, because there are too many parties to do anything against them.It should be called"Voting For The Second Best" or "The Consoulation Prize".
"Here you go,have a seat, and shut up.Don't complain, just be glad you have a say which we don't have to listen to anyway."

Re: elections 09
All "healthy" democracies have a strong opposition. Unfortunately we do not have that privelage. But by not adding your vote to the opposition, all you do is allow the ruling party to get a bigger advantage.
The way I see it: if you do not vote, it is as good as voting for the ruling party.
And, yes, I agree with the approach that if you do not vote, shut the f@ck up about how bad things are going!
Many people have died for this privelage, we must use it whenever we have the opportunity.

IT IS YOUR CHOICE TO VOTE OR NOT VOTE
this was posted on CHAT last night jus something i found
(it is your choice to vote or not vote)
why should a person HAVE to vote, just because the country says it is right.
Firstly - if one has been following the recent news - SA is playing political games - quite an embarassment in fact. It does not have anything to do with the people any more, but it is about the political agenda and those who are directly involved in it. The last 14 years have been proof of that.
Secondly, the political parties have their policies and missions, some of which are good and possibly effective if carried through, and some not so good - possibly against ones moral or religious values. Does this mean that you should vote for a party - just because you have to vote - good and bad?
Thirdly, the majority South Africans vote emotionally, not intellectually. Irrespective of the party leaders "shady" record (ANC) or the opposing parties motives for oppossing (DA), - 2 key players - one needs to question whether THEIR (the people) needs will be accommodated over the next 4 years, and if so, will this be handled by a moral, upstanding leader with qualities and traits that can be followed by the people and more specifically by the youth. But as I mentioned, emotional votes dont cater for role models, morality, quality leadership, service delivery, rule of law and basic ethics.
Pity as these are the traits this country so desperately needs in order to progress!!!!!
