Re: My 1967 T316 Notch
Muderick, I saw that car on the net, and it looks awesome. Must say the original Notch in the May Volksworld is a beauty as well, Loved that article.
Its getting worse, I can feel the onset of a new illness.FIND A NOTCHITUS. Anyone have a cure? ie: a notch? The nice original one on Gumtree has been sold (I checked), and the more expensive R27950 /R25950 needs a lot of work, original it might be, but not very well maintained as far as paint and bodywork is concerned IMHO (went to see it this past weekend after reading this post last week). Anything else out there?

Re: My 1967 T316 Notch
Karma there is that Notch in the Vaal Triangle (In the Junkmail thread) for R5k. I have some pictures that I could forward to you in the morning.
The only problem is that the car has some issue with the paperwork, but from what I have gathered when I spoke to the owner, it *could* be sorted out (car is on a deceased person's name

Re: My 1967 T316 Notch
I don't think they made that many. Half way through the T3 run, VW of which the Fasty was the last to join, they discontinued the Notch. The Fatsy almost replaced the Notch so to speak, but they were made concurrently for a few years. It is the second most rare T3, after the T34.

Re: My 1967 T316 Notch
The Notch was one of the longest to run, they stopped production in '73/'74. The first Notch was launched in '61.
When the Fasty was launched in '65, the production of the Notch still continued.
My dream Notch is a '68/'69, I prefer the later cars over the earlier ones.

Re: My 1967 T316 Notch
True, but I wonder what the real production figures were. For the Notch PLUS Fasty it's 1.3 million and for the Square alone it's 1.2 million, but I wonder how the Fasty-Notch ratio shows up. Where's that Google button...
Hmm... in Brazil production numbers were 109515 fasties, 256760 squares and only 24475 notches. The german figures are more difficult to figure out.
From 61 to 64 they built 483592 T3s. Subtract 40000 odd for Ghias, that leaves around 150000 chassis per year for notches and squares. When the fasty was added, the rate of chassis production suddenly doubled and stayed about the same for the next 10 years, so lets GUESS the squares and notch production rates (and ratios as rates taper off) stay the same, only the fasty is added, then half the T3 chassis go to fasties, that calculates to 1.2 million squares (we already know that) 1 million fasties, so only 300000 notches over the total T3 run (2.5 million chassis) of 14 or so years.
So only 1 out of 8 Type 3s was a Notch. I reckon that's about right, give or take 10%.
This is pure speculation, just a swag, a pidooma. I can't find actual Notch production numbers. But if you look at Brazil again, 24475 out of a total T3 run of 390750, that gives 1 out of 16.
What do you reckon?

Re: My 1967 T316 Notch
Notch project has started. She was driven to Jurgen last Saturday. Very nice to have her out on the road.
Awaiting feedback from Jurgen for update after he has put her on the lift.
I need help from the keep-it-original-afficionados, what's the paint code for this 1967 T3 cream colour?

Karma thanks for paint code, I am looking for paint codes preferably for white aircoolec colors, I was going to go the L87 (Pearl White) route but might try this colour as well.karmakoma wrote:Woohoo, keep us posted Ron.![]()

Re: My 1967 T316 Notch
I went to go see the Notch at Jurgen.
The engine's done, the body and pan repairs are done, the upholstery is done, the spray job looks fantastic. All in all, I was amazed at the quality of what I saw.
No pics yet, sorry guys.

Re: My 1967 T316 Notch
Well, I need to add that I bought a very sweet Notch boot rack for the Notch at the Flat4Racing open day in November. It needs some buffing up and a coat of varnish, but it will look great, I bet. Still no pics,
