Hi gents trying to get some history on my beetle but cant figure the vin number
from what i can make out from "ebens" list of vin's mine is about a 49" and that is not right made double sure of the numbers and this is the vin "1-153 680" anyone that can help.
My biggest fear is that my wife sells my cars for what i told her they cost !!
I don't have my VIN/production lists handy, but that looks like a 55-56 VIN.
Hint: until the start of the 1965 model year (8/64), all VW VINs were just sequential production numbers. The millionth Beetle was built some time (don't remember exact date) in 1955. Therefore a VIN in the 1.1 millions would be some time after that date, hence my guess of 55-56.

Thanks fig ,that makes sense it "should " be a "56 but if you dont mind checking and confirming when you get your hands on your list that would be great !

My Beetle sources are not as detailed as my bus info.
According to Hans-Rudiger Etzold, The Beetle -- The Chronicles of the People's Car, Vol 1, the last VIN built on 31 December 1955 was 1 060 929, and the last VIN built on 31 December 1956 was 1 394 119, and elsewhere in the same book it says that new colours were offered on 3 April 56 at VIN 1 149 147, which means your car probably dates from March 56.
