I think you will be fairly hard pressed to find a decent SS exhaust for a bug in SA.

Is building your own exhaust not an option? With the help of your local exhaust store?

IIRC someone mentioned a place on the East rand that makes custom exhausts. I am having difficulty getting a stock silencer for the bay and wouldn't mind a S/Steel one made up.
The only substitute for cubic inches are more cubic inches.

Get specs. Of the net of a bugpack or better system, try the samba, then visit your local pipe benders, exhaust manufactures and make yourself your own.

CSP exhaust systems and exhaust heat exchangers might be one possibility, which seem to be available through both Cool Air VW and Machine 7, in Great Britain.

CSP performance parts are reputedly also available in Great Britain, from Racing Shack (taken over by Ben Jones & Jim Merrin of Skinta Racing) in Tewkesbury (Tel. 01684 298 700), as reported last year in:

News & Products, Volkswagen Camper & Commercial, Issue 37, September & October 2008, page 12.

In the following topic thread on The Samba forum, Dennis Kruis (aka vwwestland), from Rotterdam, in The Netherlands, discusses the arrival of his CSP heat exchangers and other exhaust components, for a VW Type 1 style engine.

Thanks Nigel
I have a few CSP bits too, but just for your info, CSP products are beyond the reach of most South Africans due to their price. The Python for example, is rediculously expensive once converted to Rands.
