My 55' Bus
Some pics of my Bus. It was yellow when I got it and actually in very good condition but in my great wisdom I sandblasted the entire Bus and the MoFars warped the metal. I also blasted the inside which was the biggest mistake, I should only have done the outside.Anyway whats done is done and its coming together all-be-it painfully slow. Its now Grey/Beige.
I've modified the suspension at the rear using donor parts from a Type3(this gave me larger drums at the rear) and a cv jointed Beetle gear box(like hens teeth) with a bolt on kit from Type2 Detectives to make it all fit. Bus is lowered in the front using Creative bus lowering ratchet thingy. Front has CSP disc brake kit with later Bay master cylinder.
Also some pics of a Variant 412 I used to own.
Enjoy.

Re: My 55' Bus
Is it a very old ambulance? Looking at the linked pictures, rear door has the handle at the top so looks like it drops down?
Also the mirrors some off the hingles not the pillars.....did you change them if it's a 55?

Re: My 55' Bus
Mirrors on the A-pillars are a barndoor era feature, up to 3/55. This is a post BD bus, built in 12/55. It was originally an ambulance.Dutch_Diver wrote:Is it a very old ambulance? Looking at the linked pictures, rear door has the handle at the top so looks like it drops down?![]()

Re: My 55' Bus
LOL to Fig.....!
Dutch... VW ambulances had the rear door flip down in order to facilitate the gurney/stretcher being loaded into the ambulance.
Added a nice old pic to display this...

Re: My 55' Bus
Just checked now, and Krankenwagen (German for Ambulance), literally means ill or sick car/van
Krank (ill) + Wagen (car)
LOL! wonder what a hearse would be.... KAPUT-wagen? lol!!

Re: My 55' Bus
I think the Bus may have had mirrors on the pillar as 55' was the year they changed from the Barn door and there was probably a cross over of some of the spec. What I've also noticed is there were two different types of mirrors they used on the pillar, one bent down and the other bent up. I would still like to make some up and put them on the Bus. I think they look the shizzle.

Re: My 55' Bus
Have you ever thought about getting the exterior back to Ambulance spec?
Sirens, Krankenwagen at the back, red lights etc etc
