Help Me ... to Help You

Post by spca999 »

Hey all ACVW forum members in / around WC region ...

Had a thought, maybe coz I am, new to this and would benefit me in particular, but also possibly some other members ...

How about a monthly meet to work on a Beetle? Details as follows:

- Everybody wanting to get involved pays a monthly subscription
- We buy a body and do a restoration on a month to month basis
- Each month we focus on a particular item. e.g. Body rust, electrics, engine etc.
- During the period of time, the current month's focus is broadcast on the forum.
- People wishing to only attend to learn the specifics can attend without the monthly subscrption, but still pay to attend that months "workshop"
- We rebuild the beetle together, as each member puts in their 5 cents worth of knowledge.
- At the end of the restoration process the beetle is either auctioned or raffled and the proceeds go towards buying a new project.
- the project is published on the site, to show the development, and how each step progressed

Interested? Drop me a PM ... and given sufficient positive fedback and buy in ... let us see if we can do this. I think it would help all those individuals out there that might be interested in doing something like this, but dont have the knowledge ...
Now where was that bolt from again ...?
And do I need to weld that together?

Vader and myself have discussed this with a few others before.

Big problem is that it still belongs to someone and some people will do less work than others. It becomes a bicker about who does what and who owns what.... money gets involved and people get angry... look at how the raffle thread went......

Surely if the rules are laid down to start with ... You have to agree prior to the conditions in order to join.

I just thought that maybe it could be beneficial. If you want to know how to spray paint, its gonna cost you a lot more for a course, and that would not neccessarily teach you how to spray a beetle ...

If it was all equal input then it would not be required. Everybody would be able to do it all by themselves. Anyhow, will leave the idea out there for now and see what comes of it. Hopefully it will result in a constructive monthly workshop towards the completion of an awesome project. With at least one project completed, it could then grow!

Dont let me stop you. It is a good idea even tho I dont think it will work out as planned.

If I was in SA longer, I'd def help where I can, but I am not putting money into someone elses car, even if it is going up for charity.

What if I financed the car, and the parts then everybody could just learn from each other how to do things?

So it would only be "expertise" that would be inputted AND gained from each other.
