1972 1600... questions that need answers!
Hey
A couple of questions... this is my first post, got myself a lovely 1972 Beetle 1600 last thursday!
1. what other headlights can i fit to my bug?
2. I kow Shelley's, what other beetle places are there?
3. I've seen a couple of bugs with the vents at the back closed up, how much would closing it affect the heat of the engine?
4. how much of a pain would doing the suspension over be?

A couple of questions:
1. Why change the headlights at all?
2. Whereabouts in CT? CT is a big area. there are a couple of places around, these I have found through some hard work, and much driving ... but this depends on what you are looking.
Are you looking at restoring or modifying?

Now where was that bolt from again ...?
And do I need to weld that together?

Do yourself a favor. Start your car and go stand behind it, with the engine lid CLOSED. Now, "feel" over all the air vents, how much air it sucks in, even at idle. Then, let someone rev it up just a little, while you still feel over the vents. This should give you a good idea of why the vents are there, and why you should leave them open.
I did this once, and was shocked
That fan sucks in a hell of a lot of air through those vents.

Hey
Thanks for the feedback!....
1. I will DEFINITELY not be closing the vents... thanks so much!
2. I found Beetlebits and Volksieworld....
3. I'm looking at modifying, but nothing outrageous...
4. I don't feel the sudden urge to change the headlights, just wanted to know if there were aftermarket heads or if any other heads looked good on a bug...
5. Please forgive my insanity, very new to forum and owning a bug... but ENJOYING driving it!

A standard 7" replacement lamp for a Golf 1 will work.
On my 69, the lamps adjusted from the outside with 2 screws at about the 2 o clock and 7 o clock position of the metal trim rings.
The newer lights I fitted, need to have the trim ring removed to adjust the lights. I re-used the old trim rings and had the screw openings left open.
If you want to go for the "crystal" light look, buy your lights from Goldwagen and make sure that they have the "E" mark on them. That is equivalent to our SABS mark and you wont have roadworthy issues.
The reflectors are properly designed and give good focus and reach without blinding oncoming traffic.
The "angel eye" and "crystal" lights you buy at places like Autostyle and others are cheap Chinese knockoff rubbish. Light performance is up to
, they leak water, they get dust on the reflector in no time, they are not "E" mark approved and technically they make your car unroadworthy.

Mando's auto has glass lense guuude quality angel eyes. If you do get those, stay away from the acrylic lense. Yeah you save afew hundred bux. But loose out in a few months.
