Here's a thread on this...

There are already a lot of shows in the CPT area, it's a little quiet now because of the weather, but really, there are sometime 2 on one weekend!!

I do like the idea, to me you can never have too many shows, but I have been "present" during some of the organising of the Worcester Wiele Fees, and it's a project and a half!! Ask Barbwire!

Ron I like the idea too.
Worcester and Hermanus are probably the closest we have to an "all marque" varied interest group type show, but location is not ideal for either.
I'd like to see a Cape Town show, and I like to use of the track for displaying the vehicles and allowing owners to "cruise the fairgrounds" like you see at big US shows. Killarney would be ideal (and we could replicate the traffic and parking issues too )
Having just another static display car show is interesting as an owner for about, let's see now.......5 minutes.
Doing a show at a racetrack actually allows the possibility of other activities happening at the same time - how about a mini gymkhana on the go-kart track?

I know it's a lot of work, but I'd be happy to get involved in something like that.

Get a venue, and start looking up all the old car clubs in the Cape Town Area.

I just want to be clear on one thing, there is no way I can involve myself in this other than give advice, and I am not the best for that either, Barbwire is, as far as I know, or Anton from the Beach Buggy Club SA who do Worcester annually.

In Cape Town we also have Timour Hall and Hout Bay, Panorama and a variety of other schools that run the odd show, maybe the Capetownians can list the Cape Town shows better than me, but I am under the impression that there are many, maybe I'm wrong?

I also like the idea of doing it at a race track because folks can drive their exhibition cars. WPMC owns Kilarney and they would have to be in on it. There are aso shows at Kilarney, wasn't there a hotrod show a while back?

But I can't get involved, I am out the country for 7 months/year (hence I miss lots of shows) and when I am home, I am already over-my-head busy, I'm sure you can understand.

If I was to do this, I would first get hold of Heidi vd Au at Motorheads and get a listing of all the CPT (and surrounds) shows to see if there is in fact a need. Then get hold of Tom Bishop and his Dad to contact the other clubs, then get hold of someone at WPMC, through Dave Rowley, to find out if Kilarney is a good venue (the cost!) and then get hold of Anton, or his wife to find out what's required for organisation. As I said, Barbwire can also give lots of info.

Hi Volks!

Like Ron says there are quite a few car shows in Cape Town, but not too many that really encompasses all old cars, more importantly ACVW's. I know for a fact that organising a show is no easy feat like Korn005 says, and the guy that would really be able to help would be Anton and Naomi from the Beach Buggy Club of SA. Right now, I think, would be the ideal time to speak to Anton as the future of the Worcester Wheels Festival is in Jeopardy since the BBCSA sent out the below letter to all Cape Town car clubs that normally supported the WWF from Pionier School days and to last years event at Kleinplasie... I personally think that many people, including myself, would now think twice about making the trip to Worcester, which is one of the favourite yearly events for our club and many others...

I am sure Anton wont mind me posting this letter as the more CT car clubs know, the better. If anyone needs Anton or Naomi's details for any information, its at the bottom of this post.

To all concerned:

Beach Buggy Club SA (BBCSA) has decided not to support the Worcester Wheels Festival this year.

3 Years ago while visiting the school we saw the Financial Need and decided to make Pioneer School our yearly Charity Event. BBCSA put together a Wheels Festival that everybody was proud of and enjoyed. In the past 3 years we put together the "WWF email-story" for Car Lovers and Clubs to read and to enjoy.

These are the reasons we are not supporting the WWF anymore:

· Profit is not solely going to Pioneer School - it is now split 3 ways - 50% to Woes Fees (Worcester's annual festival) ; 25% Klein Plasie and 25% Pioneer School

· The name has changed - no more Worcester Wheels Festival (WWF)

· We are no longer part of any decision-making at WWF.

A secret meeting was held, without BBCSA being present, and the above changes was made.
Integrity and Honesty is our belief !!

As a new member of the "Cape Model and Toy Club" I can tell you that the "WWF" has been changed to the "Pioneer School Wheels Festival". Provisional dates are 30 and 31st October. I cannot tell you about the organisers though.

I will speak to Joe from SA Hotrods who organised the Killarney show, about what's involved - they combined it with a regular streetcar day.

I do think something else to keep in mind is a way of attracting the (many) car owners who want nothing to do with car clubs because of all the politics and BS.
And although speaking to people who have done it before is a good idea, I feel there is a LOT wrong with the way car shows have always been done in SA. New ideas are needed.

Worcester show was nice.(Went there as a visitor about 2 years ago.)

Panorama wheels show used to be a good one long ago. Then one year the organisers became greedy. They more than doubled the gate money and introduced a high levy payable by everyone who wanted to enter a show car. As a result they were boycotted and less than 10% of the usual show cars showed up. In the meantime,next to the venue housing complexes were built on the open grounds that used to be the visitors parking.

Will be nice to have a car show in Cape town again.

Ok guys do I go to Stellenberg High school (between Brackenfell and Durbanville) and enquire what there plans are for next year? They had there first show this year and it was fairly well attended.

Chatted to Joe - sounds like they're planning another Street Festival for December.
He is VERY keen on doing something that involves all marques, but will need to see whether it would be best combined with one of his Street Festivals, or as a seperate show.
I do feel that we need to start seeing more dynamic shows and events - like I've been saying for a couple of years: I look forward to the day when car shows leave the school playground ,grow up and enter the real world. Parking on a rugby field can only take you so far.....

Ideas are to have more happening at a show, allow vehicles to cruise/drive around if they want to (like at CITP Pta). Have some events going on - little gymkhana or slalom circuit (possibly get hold of a g-force measuring device/data logger), burnout competition (OK OK I know most on here won't be participating, but a car like Bugger's would be nice to show the muscle car guys what can be done ), access to a skidpan etc etc.
I'd would be prepared to set up a metalshaping area for people to try it out themselves, can organise airbrushing demos/clinics, many other ideas along these lines too. A proper swop meet......ie with car parts, not tea cosies....
A venue like Killarney or Swartkops allows different things to be happening that appeal to motoring enthusiasts with different specific interests

Any comments or other ideas?
I believe early December would be a good time - weather generally OK, and the prospect of there being more upcountry visitors in town at the time helps too. Suggestions?
