First debate - Shockless or not *** ducks **** kidding!
Perhaps Stock or Custom -- also too hot a topic. Might be easier to talk politics
Please someone, come up with something better?

A poorly maintained bay window engine with leaves in the intakes or a Beetle with a Type 4 engine and no external oil cooler

Without inferring any one car or person.... Whats the deal with restoring a car? When should it be restored to original, and when is it ok to do custom spec.

More than meets the eye!

Re: The Official Debate thread
Personally, as in , this may be tinted with hints of my opinion, the older and more rare a car is, the more reason to keep it original.
There are other factors, as in how much of the car is original when you acquire it. For example, if you get a 1 owner car with all the original bits still attached and matching engine and vin numbers, it would be sacrilige to change anything besides restoring it.
However, if you pick up a hacked to bits oval window without an engine and papers, it might not be worthwhile.
If the car is REALLY rare though, it might still be worth the effort. Something like a HEbmuller or early split beetle should/would NEVER be hacked and changed these days.
Then you go in the grey area with bolt-on mods , that could potentially be reversed, question is where do you draw the line?
Period accessories adds to the appeal, although they may not be STOCK.
Lots to ponder!
