What is the function of a shock.

Where is the body raised with a higher centre of gravity. All that a mini shock would do is limit the amount of suspension travel.

Oh BTW Scoob bug with Rollbar = Total hight of 99cm.

As long as you are not relying on the shock to act as a stop at either end of suspension travel.
That could get ugly......

Now there is a little problem I still have to figure out.

Got to the shop early today. I had great intentions of assembling the front suspension and getting the scoob bug back on its wheels.

Work had been hard this week and I just didnt feel like the grease thing today.

So I locked up my workshop and went to visit the guys at the toy fair in Bellville. I got back to the shop at 12 and got inspired to do a bit of body work.

As you will have read in earlier post, I have widened the back of the buggy. The left side is more or less complete but the right was still rough. The beltsander got the right fender to its basic shape and the final shape was block sanded.

A layer of matt black was applied and again I block sanded the whole of the rear. No I can clearly see where the hollows are.














After this I tackled the front fenders. The scoob bug is being channelled so the front fenders need to be raised a bit for clearance and widened to allowed for the wider track of the front wheels.























Next I will need to pre the edges for glassing and then fill the bits bettween.

Building a custom has no plan for me. If you have it all planned you limit yourself.

The mechanical. This is a definite.

Scoob 2L 16valve quad cam motor with a 'little' turbo and air to water intercooler. google its HP
Box build to handle 300BHP
Above will all be solid mounted
Type 3 rear brakes
Type 3 front Disks with Opel twin pot calipers.
Golf Rack and pinion steering (still to be done)
Custom foot pedals
Hydraulic Clutch.
May not exceed 99cm in total height.


Body: (For Now)
No Head lights. I will make clip on's when I need them.
No Front Flickers Only ones in the side mirrors
Got a Large Front Spoiler but dont know if I will use it or not. (I will post some mockups and seek opinions here)
No Front windscreen. Only deflecters
Tail lights are 36 Ford
It will have a safty cage with only a roll bar over your head. I dont want these bars that run over the wind screen that connect to the roll bar.
It will be red. (got to many yellow cars in the family at the moment, 3)

Interior: (For Now)
Want to keep everthing stark with 60's style buckets. There will be no space the rear passagers.

Thats the idea, But the end will be differant.

It first had the crappy urethane gearbox mounts. Then the Yellow Rhino ones, Then Solid mounts.

Getting the body height where I want it to be.




That looks OK. Of course the suspension is not loaded at present but this is the stance I am looking for. Once all the parts are onboard, the suspension will need to be adjusted.







Here are the pics of the front scoop. It will need lots of modification to get it closer to the bonnet.
I want to fit it for 2 reasons: Got to hide the radiator somewhere and I recon front is best. And it will give the scoob a hammer head look.

I say...cut it see how far in you can get it and make it look part of the original buggy. I love the fact that this is yours and it has your taste and style! If you don't like it.....take it off and bin it!

Have you thought about mounting the radiator like they mount them on lotus elises? Not sure where to put your fuel tank then, possibly above the gearbox?

Got nothing else to keep me busy.

As you all know I started this project start 2005 after loosing my previous bug to Fire. Then Came along the 181 and the scoob bug took a back seat. Now the 181 is complete and you can't drive it all the time so the scoob bug is getting attention.

Yes I am looking for a european 50's sports car. No not a MG. As with most things in live, timing sucks. In the begining of the year I could have got a Aston. The price was good but not excellent as I still had the 181 on the go.

I am not rushing out to find the car. They normally find me.

Unfortunaly once I have found something that I like I will abandon this project. But It could be completed before the next car finds me.

What will be, will be.
