Re: The Official Debate thread
OK, a number of 'entrepreneurs' on this site sell 'original vw' stuff and parts. The last bugg was produced close to 10 years ago in Mexico. Who the heck is still producing 'original vw parts' for VW beetles/Kombis? What the heck is original and isn't? Are we just being ripped off course something is shipped in from Uncle Sam as opposed to his neighbour?!Dutch_Diver wrote:This debate thing isn't really working....we are all kind of on the same lines.....
Vader we need your hardarse, bloody minded opinion to revs some people up!
Please boyz, I am not knocking anyones business here as I buy from y'all, but hey, if we are to talk stock/original, is this just terminology to make us fork stax of moola? As bugs said, his baby has no birthcirtificate, no track recorrd, and can thus nail her as much as he likes as he, and only he (blitz), splashed out the dosh on her, so whether he pics up a part for 200 or 1500, if it fits, he gonna slam it in!!
Would we though R&G just cut and weld? Well, who knows...we all know of the ballie who has a yard full of the rusting stuff - he values them - but to some1 else, that could just be a 'project buy' - a R1500 rolling chasis!!

Re: The Official Debate thread
Well, there are grades to everything. How original is original. Just original looking? Or, like The Fig who wants a different spare wheel wing nut because the one he's got, while being a VW one, doesn't say West Germany on it. Or the guy who looks for the actual VW paint codes, ect these real purists. They have my respect, but same as I'm not building a 10sec-1/4m beach buggy, my 14sec one is fine, my view of original sort of stops when the original engine number isn't valid anymore. I consider a '56 bus with 12V electrics original, just a bit more practical. (Fig's hair's on end by now!!
)
Keeping things original is very expensive, just like modifying is. The days of shoe-string motoring with an ACVW are coming to an end rather quickly, and so they should. Why should the ACVW classics be any cheaper to run and maintain than any other 40-50 year old cars? If you want cheap motoring, buy a Tazz or a Citi.
The more expensive the better in my view, maybe people will stop blowing up engines intentionally...

Re: The Official Debate thread
Well here is my
to the purists...
What is the point of keeping it original?
You cant...
And here is why...
AS soon as you change a light bulb it aint original....
Change the wipers..... It aint original....
Change what ever you like and it aint original any more....
Look at the DarkSide... split window into a baja...
y'all....HAHAHAHA and it has more rust than paint but is still the sexiest bug from afar!!!!!!
Here is the other thing... If your buying a car as an "investment" your a moron!!! Palin and simple... Buy a house and you'll make much much more money and in a shorter time... There is to much that can go wrong with the car to make it an investment.. Just ask Ron about Razors Edge... On second thoughts maybe not... touchy subject...hehehehe

i agree, original is meant for men who think wearing sandals and socks is sexy and prefer having sex in the woods with small beings.
Fix it, drive it, do what you want with it, but just enjoy what you do when you do it

Re: The Official Debate thread
I have to agree with Vader. You will never be able to keep something original or build it to original unless you are willing you fork out tons of cash, I mean a normal build can go for anything up to 50K now take a guess...what 100k because you cant use just any part!It must be year month and im sure it isnt gonna be easy to find it in SA so you import.....even more cash!I mean if you go today and you have a more modern car do you buy the wiper blades from the stealer dealers or from game, makro so on?So it would of been the same back then something must of gone wrong and been replaced...

Re: The Official Debate thread
No one collects cars that arent collectable.A collectable car is usually older than 20 years old,and its worth is measered by how close it is to original.......and EVERYONE knows original means original spec,so if a light bulb goes its replaced by a light bulb of the same specifications, ect.

Yes, indeed - please don't replace a 12V bulb with a Game Energy-Saver 220V, 60W one!Sambabus wrote:.......and EVERYONE knows original means original spec,so if a light bulb goes its replaced by a light bulb of the same specifications, ect.

If I have a 100% original Oval and I want to GermanLook it, I can do it. Why? It's my car!! None of the big-mouth purists who whine and say keep it original contributed a single cent towards the car, so what gives them the right to make noise and dictate to me what I can and can't do to MY OWN car that I paid for with MY bucks???!! Of course, if they are willing to pay for it and give me parts, then and only then can "they" tell me what to do.
