Re: The Official Debate thread
Look at what parts you will need, If you want new parts you are mainly going to get them from across the waters, If you want faded, chipped or scratched stuff its SA(talking about small stuff like grab handle, door + cab handles) all the smaller items are harder to find, that was my case few years ago, but then again I wasnt on this site where everyone has stuff lying around and willing to help.
Oh and work out a budget for the project, make sure its more or less accurate, once you have that figure you can multiply it by two and that would be a much better estimate you are looking at.
Anyway thats what I found

Re: The Official Debate thread
Typical of you Eben to run to the "No one is forcing you to be here argument."eben wrote:No-one's forcing you to be here are they?vader wrote:eben wrote:....and what will that accomplish? Will we all be happier by being ignorant?
Get real Eben... This topic is as old as the site is and in 4 years what have we accomplished? Squat.. F*ck All.. aircooleds are still being exported, exporters are still screwing the public and all you and the rest are doing is talking about it over and over and over again. Like a cow chewing cud.... It's boring and monotonous... It's a waist of time and effort... If you are trying inform people then do a search and see how many pages come back with the topic of exporters... There are more than enough topics on this site dedicated to the pro's and con's of exporting how many more f*ucken times do we have to discuss it? 10x 1000x? and really how many people really give a shit any more? I use to until the topic came up over and over again...
Do I even care that AC's are being exported any more? No I dont... Do I care people are being ripped off? No I dont. Good for the exporter if he has found a niche market and is exploiting the dumb asses out there? If you are too stupid/lazy to do a search on the internet for the going prices of things you want to sell, then good on the exporters for taking advantage of your dumb ass.... Ignorance is no excuses... And there is no pill for stupidity, in fact you deserve to be bent over the barrel and f*cked up the ass by the exporter for your stupidity.... And you Eben and all your other "save our VW's from Exporters' bumb f*ck buddies are daft if you think you will change anything....There are more than enough topics regarding this subject why do we have to start another one and regurgitate all the same opinions and blablabla over again?
No-one is forcing anyone to be on here.

1st I'm here cause I have put just as much into this forum as anyone and thats INCLUDING YOU! So

2nd I'm here because i enjoy a good, fresh, interlectual debate. And debateing about exporters is not interlectual nor is it fresh and the past 4 years have proven that over and over and over.. How many kind" words have past between members on this site and members of other UK and USA sites over this topic? How many sites have ACVWSA members been band from? Mmmm?
3rd If you dont like what I have to say then once again

4th If you want to debate this topic then fine I'll joining in the debate. My point of view comes from a different angle, one of basicly everything I've said up till now on this topic.
So by your responce you have lost the debate, therefore this topic of debate is over and we can move on..

Re: The Official Debate thread
Vader, my first response was also "Ag no kak, not again", and then, like you, I got drawn in. My last word on the matter.
And now for something completely different:
Spelling and punctuation. I love this debating thread…
There have been a few posts being bantered about lately about spelling and punctuation, and while I like it when the guys take the mickey out of each other, sometimes the rib has a slightly more serious tone, but it doesn’t seem to bring the message home. In the words of Catpain[sic] Edmund Slackbladder[sic] ”You should have been a limbo dancer, everything goes over your head.” Maybe I should spell it out, no pun intended.
I ribbed 1972, who I have had the pleasure of meeting, about his spelling of ferinand[sic] porsce[sic] (whatever his name is)[!!], because I take 1972 to be an intelligent young man, with energy and vision, likely to go far in life. I still do, because his …um… casual spelling of the name of Professor Ferdinand Porsche is a sign of the times, a fashion statement, a rebellion against the establishment. In other words, it’s “kewl”. (Thank you, Tom.)
Is it? Is-It-Bollocks!! It is so unkewl in fact, that it recently prompted an article on Yahoo News that stated exactly how unkewl it was, tiresome, they called it, in particular that sms-shorthand, the use of which is inappropriate anywhere other than in unkewl sms’, as is paying no heed to punctuation, capitals, grammar and spelling. It creates an impression that is utterly uncomplimentary to the writer – lazy, unread, untidy, uncaring, the kind of person who dons his cleanest dirty underwear in the mornings, and stops it sticking by turning it inside out.
wot wood you peeps think off me if al my posts surrenly lookd liak this coz im sur you wood think im a f-ing idjit weather or not i know woo ferdi is or wuz or if i no how too repiar a starter moter 4 you or wear too get a bumpa crommed wot do you think or do you i dont care anyway whatever but w8 im kewl sea wazzup so i dont car about you’re opinyens or theres
(These are all examples of “kewl speek” I have learnt from ACVW Forum members, exclusively, except “wazzup”, I picked that up on the Simpsons. It has a kewl ring to it, don’t you think? Bart’s buddy Milhouse does it best though: “Whaazzzzz-ZUUUhhhhppp!!!”)
I fully understand that we are not all linguistically gifted, I’m not, I’m only a part-time technical writer, but I read a fair amount, and that’s where my vocabulary, grammar and spelling comes from, some of us don’t like reading, fine, but at school I also paid attention in class in English and Afrikaans (neither of which are my mother tongue). I can recognize a grammatical error by an Afrikaans speaking chap who, out of respect for us, writes in “die taal van die anti-Chris”, as in “I are a Boer, and I has sometimes trouble wif Ingels, maar kom ons hoor jou Afrikaans, jou f**ken Soutpiel!”, and that’s OK, really. I recognize when people write in accents for fun, but I also recognize from people’s writing whether they are bothered at all what kind of self image they project into the public domain. It has to do with respect. Self respect and respect for others. Let me illustrate: I don’t like being spoken to in baby-talk, coochie-coo, my arse. How do you guys feel when your mammie speaks to you in baby-talk, like, in front of your kewl bravas’s, like, while spitting on her hanky and wiping the corners of your mouth with it? (Yeah-yeah, we all have‘em and we love‘em!) But it’s embarrassing. Now, I don’t like being spoken to like I’m a retard either and this is exactly what you do when you write like a retard. It’s irrit8ing.
I hope the guys this post is aimed at will take a little more care when writing their CVs, or indeed, their English second paper. Yes, this is a forum, it’s informal, the odd hasty mistake is fine, everybody makes them, but looking downright stupid is not fashionable or kewl, it is exactly what it says, and unless you fit the description, or wish to, you are doing yourself a real disservice.
