Re: Official baja bug thread, lets talk bajas
My very first Hot Wheels model ever was also a Baja Bug - it is a ragtop splitty with an internal roll cage and Real Rider wheels (real rubber tyres). I bought it in 1982 at the OK Bazaars for R 1.50 (I think that was about two weeks' pocket money at the time). Still have it today.. but it has multiplied over the years!

Why thank you Dutch.... I didn't realise that rust was detailing....

Lets not forget VW's own factory-built 'Baja' - the 1943 Kommandeurwagen

I love that bug!
This is only the 3rd pic I've ever seen of them. Some of you dream of seatcovers while sleeping, but I dream of a Kommandeur wagen!
Pine do you have more info/pics about these cars?

Re: Official baja bug thread, lets talk bajas
Used to see a baja with reduction boxes down at Sodwana occasionally. I think it came from GP.karmakoma wrote: Any reason why someone would not be able to fit reduction boxes in a baja ?
It looked great, but the guy had raised the front by just jacking up the suspension as high as it could go - didn't look like it would work too well - be continually bottoming out? Not sure.
but anyway - if you could get raised spindles (Trekker/Thing spindles?) it would be a monster off road. The only real issues I had with a baja off road (and sometimes on-road!) was a lack of ground clearance. Reduction boxes / raised spindles would fix that in a jiff.

Looking for a splitscreen panelvan - have a year or two to find one. If you know of one, please let me know.

Take dropped spindles and flip them over to the "wrong" side ? Instant raised spindles ?
A Baja as you described will really be able to go ANYWHERE..

Oh and dont forget: its pronounced BAHA and not Baja coming from the name of the Baja peninsula in the south of California

What suspension mods do you need to do to get that kind of lift? Do the guys go full A arm or are they modded spindles front and rgb's on the rear.
Gearing mods must also be hectic to turn those wheels.
