Another dumb question, how loose/tight must the oil pump be in the casing when the bolts are undone? what if there is a slight gap all round the pump when its put in? the older type pumps a different diameter to the newer type ones?

doent matter how loose it is when case is undone, must be snug fit when case is bolted down. I use a very small thin layer of gasket compound (ball hair thick) around the pump inlet and outlet to help seal it. If it oozes out, you have used too much.

Thanks Tony, its what i suspected. Are there different diameter pumps or should all be the same diameter? Definitely starting to think its time to rebuild my engine on the shelf as an 1800 as this recon i'm running now is dodge.

On my brothers recon he got, they put a type 4 oil pump, is this common practice?

Can anyone explain to me, how do Bajas keep cool? I am currently running Ol' Betty without the bonet, but then asked myself, y do I need to put it back in except for water going into pancake?!

On a Beetle, the engine is closed and you need to get the warm air away from the engine.Wit a Baja and a Buggy the engine is exposed to the elements and all the warm air gets blown away, keeping it cool.

My question for the day.

Is there a way to remove valve springs from a Type4 head without specialised tools? Some kind of trick?
