Ha just the man to ask ! Thanks Henry we are planing to catch three supercross races in Angel stadium , LA and San francisco so we have two weeks and sundays "open" to terrorize the nation ! Arriving in SF on the 28 Jan 1st race there on the 30th then driving to San Diego for the race on the 6th and then back to Anaheim for the race on the 13th, flying back on the 14th. Thanks for the effort man.

Ok, so I take it you guys are going to have some sort of transport (car). I do not know San Francisco very well, a must see is The Golden gate bridge
There are trips you can take to the prison, might be a little costly but no bad. Lombard street (worlds most crooked street)
Trams China town. SF has one of the biggest Chinese communitys in the US.
In Los Angelis there is tons to see.
Just the drive down from SF to LA is great, if you drive the PCH (Pacific Coast Highway) It will take you past some great scenery.
Also visit the Pieterson Motor museum The displays rotate so there is always something new to see.
Cars and Coffee on every Saturday morning, very early, it is at the Mazda HQ Worth a visit, all the exotics get together there. More Lambo's and Ferrari's than you can shake a stick at.
Then the usual touristy things,
Paramamount studio tours
Beverley Hills/Rodeo drive Santa Monica pier
Disney Land
Chinese theater. On Sundays a bunch of people in costume hangs out so you can take pics.
I have looked for VW shows at that time, but could not find any listed at this time. But will update if I hear of any.
As it seems like you have some free time, I would strongly suggest that you drive to Las Vegas for a day or two. It is something to behold, and it is only about 6 hours one way.
I will think of more things and let you know, maybe some of the guys from that aria could chip in with more info
Also, I take it you are not with a tour group, just winging it? What are you going to do for places to stay?

You should do Palm Springs and the Yuka valley...it's beautiful. I lived in Riverside (60 mins from LA) for 2 years....
Also SeaWorld in San Deigo is also very good as is Disneyland in Aneheim. Not sure if 6 flags is also going but that was cool.

Re: USA trip suggestions please
So splitfan did you guys get things sorted for your trip, I am still waiting for the stuff from California, but as soon as it arrive I will let you know so I can send it to you.
This is from last Saterday's Cars and Coffey in Cali, so I think if you visit the CNC you will see some of the best VW's around.

Re: USA trip suggestions please
splitfan, welcome (a bit early) to the US! Hope your trip goes better than well!!
Your schedule is, in a word, busy! Since you have all 3 of your weekends scheduled you will not run into any VW events during the weeks you are here. If you could arrive earlier, or stay a big longer, you have big shows going on but for now you are arriving right in between everything.
For example, the first Pomona swap meet of the year goes on Jan 17th and the next one won't be until March. Each swap brings out at LEAST 100 VW's and tons of parts to drool over. Let me know if you change your schedule and I could come up with more events.
I live in the California high desert just an hour away from LA. When you get down to Anaheim I really want to meet up.
As for popular things to do, Disneyland is open every day all year long. Great for famlies, and tolerable for a pair of dudes without kiddies. Bring money of course. http://disneyland.disney.go.com/disneyl ... e=HomePage (sorry about the confusing website, they are a big corporation after all)
The other park mentined 6 flags Magic Mountain is only open on weekends starting in January, but it is a roller coaster dreamland and totally worth a visit. http://www.sixflags.com/magicmountain/i ... kinfo.aspx
What kind of RV are you thinking about? If you want to drive around the cities with ease I suggest some kind of Class B motorhome which is a fancy passenger van, maybe you could even source a VW eurovan to be "VW cool". In the US there are also Class A (leviathan size) and Class C motorhomes (just a bit bigger than Class B), with the Class A not at all easy to drive in heavy traffic but offers small house size inside room.
Your current drivers license from SA is fine for driving in California since you are a visitor. Just remember we drive sitting in the LEFT seat on the RIGHT side of the road.

Your RV renter will handle insurance affairs.
splitfan, shoot me a PM and I will give you my phone # in case you need anything.
