Auction on Saturday
I attended an auction on saturday, there were classic cars and so on.
There was a split window beetle which went for R95000, some other beetles that went between R30- R50000.
The beetles were in very good nick, and I was rather surprised at the prices though. I was not able to take pictures as the place was so full of people that I could not get a good picturer of any car.

Re: Auction on Saturday
I was also there, although I didnt stay for the whole auction. Some of the prices were good (market-related) and others were insane (there was a Mach 1 mustang that went for R650k!) but I wouldnt say there were any bargains. Not surprising really, most of those people know what the cars are actually worth so thats what they sell for in the end. Was a fun experience though - and it was nice to look at all the different cars.

I am sure that many of those cars are going overseas, even the auctioneer mentioned that there were many exporters there.

Re: Auction on Saturday
R95k for the split beetle in my view is a bargain especially if in good original condition!

Re: Auction on Saturday
At the previous auction there were a Karmann Ghia and some beetles. All were sold at good prices. I presume that the R95 000-00 were without commision and VAT. That will add another R23 000-00. Depending on the condition, I think that R95 000-00 for a spit Beetle is very reasonable. Even if the other costs are added.
Unfortunately I couldnt attend. Had a wedding.
Will go the next time.

Re: Auction on Saturday
I had a good look at it and it was a very nice, clean beetle. It had been restored, but it was totally original (even had a toolkit on the spare wheel). The engine looked original too (not sure if it was a matching numbers car). Interior was immaculate as well.Dutch_Diver wrote:That's beautiful......and looks totally original.

and then some.....!!Dutch_Diver wrote:so worth every penny!
For anyone who still believes R95K is a lot, please do the restoration (we'll assume you already won the equipment needed) and pay yourself lets say R100/hour. Be interesting to see if you have anything left over that might cover the costs of a shop to actually do this work properly....
Now start shopping for donor cars.....
