1. Split Beetle - I wouldn't use as would be worried some idiot would crash into it whilst staring
2. 23 Samba - I would be worried everytime I parked it up that it wouldn't be there when I returned...Thief probability 99.99%
3. 914 VW Porsche - Just don't like the shape....much perfer a Karmann Ghia

Re: Which ACVW not to have?
Is that a rhetorical question ?
Were you choosing between cars because your budget didnt allow you to take three or four at once, did the seller not show up with the car?

Re: Which ACVW not to have?

412LE Variant - only because I had a few myself and it was quite a hate/love/hate relationship. Make no mistake, they are lovely cars, and were way ahead of their time when they were sold in '73 and '74. But the Bosch D-Jetronic fuel injection is a biatch to maintain, and original parts impossible to find. All the electric and electronic connections to the engine, sensors etc. makes removing and re-installing the engine quite a challenge, and as the lugs and insolation wear with age, the computer box get false info and react to it wrongly. That is the main reason why so many were converted to dual carbs, but these have a few challenges themselves. A fuel injection engine has a different cam than a carb one, so performance is not adequate. In an effort to fit the carbs under the rear lid, the manifolds are very short, which also affects performance...and so on and so on.....
They were also available with automatic transmissions, but DON'T even go there

I am also not aware of any 412LE's winning any beauty contests?
BTW, anyone know about a nice original 412LE Variant for me?

The Bosch K-jetronic is just as useless. its what was wrong with the Porsche 924's...Pine wrote: But the Bosch D-Jetronic fuel injection is a biatch to maintain, and original parts impossible to find.
From fastest to slowest:
Birkin race car, not much is standard
Lotus Elise 111R, almost everything is standard
'75 SP 1600 with a few mods
B8 A4 Avant tdi, towing made easy

Any car that:
Has had the wiring, doorhandles, fender beading rubbers painted and then for good measure the inside of the bonnet in chassis ruberising black.
Any car where the owner tells you that the engine has just been rebuilt without showing serious proof
any car with fiber glass floors or surfing stickers
any car with white smiths trail dusters
any car with a pancake filter on a stock oily engine
any car with dingle berries hanging from the mirror
any car with a gazillion holes in the dash and extra gauges from all sources.
Any car with more than 5mm endplay
any car with a watercooled engine

"Any car where the owner tells you that the engine has just been rebuilt without showing serious proof"
we should also add:
"Any car where the owner tells you it has been restored but doesn't really get what that means and most likely its only had a polish"
