Best way to get a bug sold?

Good day all,

I'm looking at getting rid of my 68 import VW Beetle quite urgently as i have a new project on the horizon.

Three questions:
1) How does one access the offered section (I dont have to many posts and i notice that this is a requirement)

2) What are bugs really worth these days, i know this may be a difficult one, comparable to "how long is a piece of string"

3) How successfull are classified sites like Gumtree etc.

Help would be greatly appreciated.

Gumtree and junkmail do work. Autotrader you have to pay for. I'm still getting calls and messages now from an ad i put in junkmail a month or 2 ago.

I found my new car (well second hand car) in junkmail, hence the old one went on junkmail a day or 2 later. no problems.

It doesn't hurt to put them up on either of those.

My view on prices is a bit different to most on here, so i cant help you there.

Ask Eben for access anyway, who know's, Take a chance, the worst that can happen is that you dont get access and put a thread up in general discussion with your car on offer...

It can be broken down into 3 categories intially:

1: Pre 60's bugs (Ovals, Splits etc)
2: 60's bugs
3: The others

Now those in category 1 often fetch the most, because let's face it, Hitler was right and we all know this is the truest form to what he had in mind. Anything upto 100k for a decent model. Category 2 is still ok, a good model can fetch upto 50k. Category 3, these models are more popular and often don't hold the price. Having said that, I'm really keen for a young beetle, not sure why but I am.

Next you need to ask yourself the following:

1: Do I have papers for it? not a major issue but knock off 10k easily
2: How's the body and paint? Does she look like a GILF or a Gran?
3: Do you have good images of said car? Using a cell phone images just tells the seller you're a tight f*** who can't even borrow a camera to use, so what other corners have you cut?
4: Is it heavily modded? Those go faster stripes might make your nether regions get all bumpy but let me tell you, some have the opposite effect.
5: Does it go? this is basic.

Whilst not the defacto list to selling a bug, it does help

In most cases, question is "How much money am l willing to loose?". Most of us do up our ac not cos we want money, but cos we passionate about them. When life happens, we sometime find we then are forced to sell, and we find it difficult to justify the "High price" as some1 mite think of tag.

About the car:

It’s a white 1968 1300cc import model. From my limited knowledge, the differences I’ve noticed from the local models are, the mph speedo, the 4 lug wheels, the omission of the “Banana” shaped vents on the sides, as well as the air slits on the engine lid.

The car has been standing for approx 3years before I purchased it due to a seized engine. The body has some surface rust but is really solid, the worst affected areas being below the rear side window.

The original 1300cc engine has been replaced with an 1835cc engine running dual Weber 40mm IDF’s . Performance 4 into 1 exhaust, Mallory distributor etc.

The car unfortunately is not registered as yet but I do have all the necessary documentation from the previous owner for the transfer of ownership.

I’d be willing to sell the body separately as my new project is an ACVW as well and I could definitely utilize the engine.
