Motor back in Ghia and running smoothly. Have put some 13" rims on the front as a trail. Driveability in the wind with the 15" on at 100kph is worse than driving a bus.

Suffered from food poisoning this weekend, but managed to get some work done. Opened the fasty after a long time to air it, started cleaning up the tranny and installed the crossshaft etc again. Now to fit the motor.

Pulled the bonnet and windscreen off the buggy AGAIN. Found 1 live wire I forgot to connect last time and also cleaned the fuse holder which was causing the headaches.

Now all my cars are running. All I need to do is set the clutch on my wifes Opil and then will have time to look at the Bus. :hangloose:

As some of you guys know, when I restored my 181, I fiited a 85A/h alternator with the intention of fitting a fridge. Well this weekend a fridge got fitted.

Once again this weekend my Kubel proved again what a versatile and fun vehicle it is.
Over the bridge.jpg
With the front steering much better now, it was off to Hermanus. The coast road was chosen as I had to stop at a client in Gordons Bay.
Our fridge at the house packed up so for now the one from my shop has to stand in. Now I will have to go across to my Office if I want something cold.
Saturday hike.jpg
Friday Morning the 181 took us to the start of our hike. Even though it was cold and misty the Kubel got us there in comfort with its warm air blowing from its heaters. There is nothing like driving topless on a cold morning with warm air swirling around your body.
By 10am we had hiked to the Three Dams, gulped good hot coffee at Ingrids and got home in time for bacon and eggs.

fish braai.jpg
Later that day the 181 took us for a Ride to the New Harbour and brought home a Yellow Tail for the coals.

That evening my Kubel carried us to the Passion Play. This time it proved itself by carting 5 passengers with the Garden Furnisher.
rain.jpg
Saturday Morning we awoke to rain. No problem for the Kubel and up went its roof and later its side curtains at the Hippy Market.

Getting home with all the traffic was a problem so the Kubel chose a less travelled route.

This is a Pic of another Fish we brought home from the Hippy Market, supporting a local artist.

Sunday the Kubel just took us for Breakfast and later in the afternoon, it took I and the wife for a coffee at a newly opened Deli.

Today its brought us home safely. This is the first time that I have had it over 100km/h for a long time and noticed a rumble from the front right wheel. I will have to look at that some time.

I am not the only one happy with my decision on buying and restoring this 181.

Back to the 58 beetle freeking charging system (genny & regulator) is history, fitted a altenator, charging for now, (fingers crossed) :?
SC got new (second hand) seats they got a good scrub down, dam cab has some bad rust :( .
Fitted a new (second hand) exhaust the previous one had a huge hole. Now with this quiet, "NOT REALY" exhaust the pulley & woodruf (sp?) has a not so happy noise. (not another FUKCING genny) Noisy as hell, the shaft is worn as is the key (dig out another alternator I think).
Plans to change the geny to altrernator.
Changed the dizzy on the SC, has a huge flat spot , turns out the acc. pump on the carb is at fault. I think :zhelp:
For what it's worth, ignorance has no limits ......

I set up a cheapo gazebo over the project - man, I'm sick of trying to work on bare metal in the rain :(

I also sanded down the first, thin layer of body-filler on the roof and left-hand side and slapped on a second layer. Finally starting to hide those ugly welds.

Wanted to give the 1303 a tune-up because it just didnt want to idle properly

So to the carb I go. As thsi is the last place that I remember I fiddled.... Trying to adjust the air/fuel mixture screws, I hear this clicking noise. :?: :!: The bloody fuel cut-off soldenoid is loose..., ever so slightly. Disconnect the wires, screw it out and lcean the contacts. Screw it back and snug it nicely with the #17. Hook up the wires and hey presto....

I like pussys..... did I ever mention that  :?:

Well, the 1303 purrrsss like one again :hangloose: So that is what I done to the AC today.
