Re: Cleaning out my Audio Stuff
I just missed cellphones in school by a couple of years, you were way cool if you had a portable sony cd-player, that would JUST fit inside your blazer pocket, with an in-ear headphone, threaded through your jacket, so you could look bored and listen to whatever was hip and happening.
Only problem was saving up for the cd's, as no-one had cd-writers to make LEGAL copies of songs you downloaded, oh wait, 9600/14.400 Us Robotics was king then, no mp3 downloads ! Netscape for windows 3.1, yeah baby. No google, I know , hard to imagine, only Yahoo. Got my Hotmail account back then, was the first person in my family/friends etc that even knew about email, let alone have one, and now, who doesn't have one? Space quest on floppies anyone ? Now that was a cool game in glorious 16 colour VGA.
Amazing how quickly things change, we are not talking a hundred years here.....
and that, is what you call a hijack!

Re: Cleaning out my Audio Stuff
We had a phone at school too. It had a crank handle and if you swung it a lady (might have been a slut, who knew) came on the other end and said "Nommer asseblief?" In the hostel we made n "lang-tiekie" to call home.
I was given for Christmas, a record player the size of an LP cover (no cassette recorders yet. 8 track and my dad's reel-to-reel, yes.) If you put a 33 on is, the whole thing disappeared except for one corner that stuck out where the arm was mounted. You had to take the 33 off to change the volume, haha!! The speaker was also under there, if you turned it up to high, the 33 would vibrate and the stylus would jump to the beat... My first LP was Captain Fantastic by Elton John. My first 45 (remember the song Hits-on-45? that's where that came from) was Love hurts by Nazareth...
My first email was in 1993... I had to type it on a 286 at work, print it, and take it to the company secretary who then typed it again and sent it. My first computer was in 1994 a 486 (hoohaa) with Windows 3.11 (for work groups) and Netscape Navigator.
I liked Asteroids. I had a friend who was so good on that, he played and gained space ships faster than the game could take them away, then he would hand over to me, and when I had lost them he would stack them up again, so the two of us would play the whole evening on 20c. In the Arcadia Centre in Beatrix street... Instead of swatting WKF II (Kernfisika 2). I stayed across the road in the Aviva Hotel. What a fcuking dive! Verder het ons gesuip en rondgefok met anner ooms se dogters...

Re: Cleaning out my Audio Stuff
Well, this is where I am reassured that justice does prevail in the world. We are now getting our just reward for what we did to the Oom's daughters. What goes around, comes around, hey? And the daughters don't help, of course...

Hey Ron,we stayed around the corner from the Arcadia Centre. Those games were cool back then.None of this PSP and Nintendo things around.Sunny Park had the nicest ones though, but it was a longer walk up the road to get there.

Re: Cleaning out my Audio Stuff
Ja-ja, you can laugh, hehe... But while I am sitting here, white knuckled, hoping my daughters have some common sense, i.e. they buy their own condoms!!! because the boyfriend's one has been in his wallet for 3 years... UV embrittled and past its sell-by date... I also smile inwardly knowing that those little bastards are going to have daughters one day, in the not too distant future, considering the way they are carrying on. And if they don't have at least one daughter, then I hope at least Justice ensures one of their sons is the boyfriend of a corned beef inspector just to make sure Daddy feels the same pain as me...
Sunny Park did have the best ones. You're right...
Hey, Christoffel, those were the same days I used to earn R275.00 per month. 20c was a kak load of money then. A liter of petrol was 47c.

Re: Cleaning out my Audio Stuff
back then when even 20c was hard to find, we used to go to building sites after the builders have left or on weekends to steal the little rings in the electric boxes were the condutes for the wires goes thru (was metal then). the rings was the same size as the 20c piece. we played ourselves stukend
