The first KDF that Hitler was driven in to lay the Wolfsburg factory foundation was also black and it looked awesome.

black is an awesome colour. just bare in mind that for some reason (i dont know why), black is a dificult colour to spray. somehow there is a special technic to spray this colour to get it right. first do some homework,u could be disappointment with the outcomevannman wrote:well black it is!

I have a good friend with a panel and paint shop, he will be doing it for me and we will be trying it out on an other car first. (he gets lots of right offs that he has to keep for insurance jobs)farhaad.sonday wrote:black is an awesome colour. just bare in mind that for some reason (i dont know why), black is a dificult colour to spray. somehow there is a special technic to spray this colour to get it right. first do some homework,u could be disappointment with the outcomevannman wrote:well black it is!

Re: my 54 oval
Two other things about black:
It shows up, more than any other colour, any imperfection in your panels.
It shows the dirt something terrible, any spec of dust, water mark, whatever, shows up huge and filthy, so you're always walking around with a polishing cloth, It shows up any scratches and stone chips too.
BUT: Black is beautiful...

Re: my 54 oval
I would say Matt Black
Also, black makes the car hotter - the paint literally absorbs the heat.
the other day we did a comparison at work. Our superstructure painted white, in full sun was in the low 40's, while the hull, painted dark blue was mid 60's.

Re: my 54 oval
Black body infra red absorption (temperature) it is called. Somehow this is the same theory that proves the detrimental effect on engine cooling of chroming your engine tin, but, while I believe it to be true, I haven't exactly correlated the two yet...

Re: my 54 oval
chroming works differently. It is so highly polished that the surface area is roughly half that of a rough finish (unpolished has plenty peaks and valleys) - so with the smaller surface area, it radiates less heat.
