Stared at my Master Cylinder for hours.... Its a thing of beauty... Actually was trying not to work. Brought the damn thing with me with the hope of going to a spares shop to go get the right kit to fix it with as the one I bought on the w/end doesnt want to fit... Cant understand why though.
A car for the people, an affordable Volkswagen, would bring great joy to the masses and the problems of building such a car must be faced with courage.

busy day, headed out and first stop the accelerator cable decided to snap. R500 tow later and a few choice words, 2 hours of time and loads of dirt, we have a working setup again.

Was going to give it a service, but struggling to find anyone down in Durbs who have the gaskets for the sump in stock, the usual suspects dont.

I think you are referring to the footwell heater vents. They work great in Winter yes.

CooP

Before you try it there are a few things you should know.

1. You'll need a lot of Bicarbonate of soda. The shops sell them in 500 gram packs but you plow through that in seconds. So try to work on a big sheet of plastic so you can re-use it as much as possible.

2. It makes a hell of a mess. Don't do it indoors.

3. Although it's safe for the environment and yourself to use, you absolutely have to wear a breathing mask, else everything will taste like soda for hours.

There must be commercial suppliers who'll sell you a 25kg bag for the same price as four boxes from the supermarket?

Looking for a splitscreen panelvan - have a year or two to find one. If you know of one, please let me know.

Try somewhere like "CHIPKINS" bakery supply people.
Maybe "McAdams" bakery supply can help too.

so am i getting this right.
1) u need lots of bicarb
2) compresor with sandblast gun (can u use the gun with the bottle attached to it, usually used for engine cleaning?)
3)open ventilated space

then
put bicab (dry) in bottle attached to gun and compresor and spray on desired surface?

the result is cleaner than acid bath?

glued foam to air control plates in ventilation box, re-assembled the unit and installed it ... BLISSS no more cold air "blasting" in thru the dash airvents at 0630 in the morning !!

also reglued foam to those flat plates/valves in the floorwell vents, reassembled the cleaned, repainted re-foamed contraption, and installed back in car .. magic .. no more frozen feet either.

if i cant get the heater to work i can now at least keep the cold air out .. progress 8)

Started sanding SP steering wheel, masked it off nicely so that now I can send it off to be sprayed , still deciding on a colour. Got my rockers back from the sandblasters early on, unfortunately it's freezing in my garage and I have no guts to work in there until I get the heater sorted

Had my garden engineer/ ACVW restorer in training very carefully clean the doorpanels and seats of the 58 with some diluted handy andy and a soft cloth.
Checked it when I got home, tough to see in the dark, but at first glance, they look pretty good! :hangloose:
Door panels look 20 years old again!
