Suprised

Post by MELLO YELLOW »

On Tuesday I had to refill the bug with petrol and decided to check the fuel consumption :o :o Now I am not knocking anyone who has built a VW motor before as I know that there are alot of competant people on this forum :hangloose:
But this is a testament to the work that Roy aka calooker does

I put R300 petrol in which works out to 36.285 liters
I drove a total of 513Km (stop, start)
Now if my calculations are correct, 513km divided by 36.285l equals to 14.138 km/l :o :o :o :D (are my calc correct?)

I am sure that some of you have read the specs that calooker done on this motor and the fact that I I need to have the carbs balanced and then service the motor so I think I can expect maybe another 2km/l ?

Your Calcs is correct!

Thats awsome, rates the same as a modern fuel injected 1.4i corsa lite.

Awsome for a twin carb setup.

Way back then, my first Beetle, STOCK, I got an average of 12-13km/L. I did those calculations often, and there weren't any mistakes in my calculus......

twin carbs do make for better economy when driven lightly on the highway.

Speed also makes a huge impact.
I used to drive JHB to Witbank regularly. At 90km/h I used to do 6.5l per 100km. At 140km/h it was closer to 14 liters per 100km.

I would say between 80 and 110km
Now I have a new problem in that my speedo cable is on the fritz I think I may have to replace it, so there goes my record keeping of my "milage"

I had the dreaded speedo needle 'bounce' / whiiiirrrrrrrr. Took it off, and soaked the cable from top to bottom with WD40. Problem solved.
