Hi GavinHuart,

Thanks for your reply. Yes, I do understand what you saying and I agree with you to an extent. But also I dont have access to the whole Forum yet, I don't know why. I asked for access, mailed eben for access and also sent him a PM asking why I was not given access. But no reply up till today.
Can you find out why?
So I could not post it locally on here. But I did post it locally on other sites and had no joy. So I decided to try else where, would u not do the same?

So your are saying that it was right for samba to lash out? I think a PM would have been more appropriate then on display on a public Forum. And no I wasn't aware that advertising a vehicle overseas is a no no if you are on this forum..

And just one other thing, I wasn't looking at making extra money by exporting it. If you noticed it was marked for +- the same price here an there.

GavinHuart wrote:Lets make one thing clear, guys on here are very insistent on South African buses or indeed South African ACVW's staying within SA - and with due reason. There is a section of the site dedicated to warn locals of suspected and active exporters: http://www.aircooledvwsa.co.za/viewforum.php?f=14 so with that taken into consideration, Samba's out-lash at your posted advert on the international forum was to be expected and completely understood. I was equally as shocked to see the ad.

International buyers are snapping up our vehicles at cheap prices due to favoring exchange rates on their behalf and we are losing precious, historic cars that deserve to stay here to try and keep some of the SA ACVW-built heritage.

It is your car. You did pay for it and (sadly) you can do what you want with it. Your intention of making extra money is understood but doing through exporting a local car is frowned upon.

I gather you weren't aware that advertising a vehicle internationally is a no-no on this forum.

Hi!

As far as I know, access to offered and wanted cars (the vehicles section) is only granted once new members have been; A: actively involved on the forum, and B: been assessed whether they have intentions of exporting and C: if the moderators are checking their PM's  . (I could be wrong) In the light of this debate, you have to admit that there's a little bit of irony there

Think of it this way: We are ACVW enthusiasts. Cars are being exported so we (as locals) are losing out. I don't care which way you look at it, selling a car for the international price they "can" fetch automatically puts it completely out of the price range locals can afford. Fact. How I see it is; it's not really fair if Joe Bloggs joins and is granted immediate access to what cars are being advertised on here. He has a look, snaps up Tannie Maritjie's 56 Oval for +- R40k because he has the money, he logs off this forum and sells it for the equivalent of R70k in sterling on a UK forum. Anyone would think this is a wonderful thing, right? But the only person really "winning" is Joe. All we see is yet another splendid SA car disappearing over the pond and we never hear from Joe again. Yes, Joe bought it. The intention of this forum is to help Joe maintain his SOUTH AFRICAN car and encourage him to hang onto the thing for as long as possible. It's not to knowingly allow cars to be exported... :(

As for the out-lash, it happens and more often than not. Suffice it to say you struck a nerve and people are going to comment. It's happened on many threads on here and other forums and will always happen. A diplomatic approach is to PM fury, but where's the fun in that? :TIC:

Right, yes there was a little hostility,locals,.....sorry.And as for the price,..its rediculous,40k for a panal in that condition is crazy, its less than 50% complete, have a closer look at the busses going for that money then show us how that bus competes.

No hard feelings,.......good luck with youre bus build.

Hi Again..

No problem.. I see what you saying.. and you do have a point to an extent..

That thinking of keeping people from the "cars for sale section" so that cars can stay in SA jus proved to be the opposite.
I only wanted access to there to put my van for sale, and that was after I got indo about the D/C's. So that maybe someone local here might buy it, if they were interested.. But I could not, so the result was advertise it else where. Seems like it doing the exact opposite.. weird thinking but understandable.

Maybe they should review there rules...

That is true, no fun with PM.. but would be the diplomatic way as you say.. But then again Free country, freedom of speech, freedom to do what ever people want.. :) :hangloose: :hangloose:

but anyway the van is not longer for sale until I find a D/C.. So Peace out to everyone..

Some say rediculous, some say good price, some say too cheap.. :) Everyone will have there own opinion on it...

I went and saw many buses before I bought this one. And the prices were more expensive on some and less on others. But the condition or the amount of rust on them were far far worst, this still has minimal rust. And then again they were incomplete, no engine, no windows, no papers, etc, etc..

Ranging from 8k for a rusted cut up shell (If I could call it that) to R40000 for a panel van, running with no papers.. :)
not forgetting all the others I seen in between.. :)

kewl, No hard feeling.. Thanx.... :drunks: :drunks: :drunks:

ok so this weekend I got down to stripping the tie-rods, drag link and swing lever off..
All the STEERING DAMPER was also damaged. It was bent bad.. Where can I get that from??

Image

The swing lever pin actually looks good still. There was very slight play on it.
Wat would be your opinion on it, replace it or is the slight play ok?

hi
just to get back to the whole exporting thing (sorry blits)
if i may say a word or two. i am not a fan of exporting to but, would that dc not be in a better place, even if its across the pond, than where it's now going to be cut up to nothing. local south africans generally are just to cheap to pay for something but expect the return value.
just my 2cents worth

Re: 67 Splitty Panel Van - for sale.. -

Ok so this weekend I managed to fit all the stuff back.

Fitted new steering damper, along with tie-rods (left and right) and the drag link.
I did not change the swing lever pin or install the kit. Fitted the same one back.
Might need to be adjusted or set right. I tried to set it to the best of my ability.. :)

The Van seems to move and feels alot more stable when turning.. But drove her to the garage and back.. like 500 meters away..

But the brakes need to be done up... Due to the master cylinder leaking, brake fluid went low. Topped it up and then pumped the brakes a little, seems as though one of the wheels were binding.. Jacked each tyre up and spun it to see which one was the problem, it was the front right (drivers). Bleed the brakes and came right.. But I think the brakes need to be completely done up.....
