The guy is lying!!!! the exhaust is worth 900. What else is he lying about...

thats the standard exhaust for an SP1600. they used to be 750.
From fastest to slowest:

Birkin race car, not much is standard
Lotus Elise 111R, almost everything is standard
'75 SP 1600 with a few mods
B8 A4 Avant tdi, towing made easy

I'm not saying our parts are cheap but for that price I can buy a drivable project.

I bought a 1641 twin carb motor from Rui a while ago, a lot of work had been done to it and that was R6500-00. Worth every cent. A stocker is probably anywhere from R2500 - R4000.

That exhaust is about R1000-00.

Luck of the draw. Over the past few years I've bought a R2k used engine that was perfect and still runs well today, while a R6.5k engine I bought was scrap, despite being "newly rebuilt". I learned my lesson: unless I have real evidence of what went into the build and who did it, I treat all used engines as scrap.

Oh noooooooooo, best motor that I ever bought 1500 SP cost me R1900 and ran like new.....2 beetles and 2 busses later and it was sold with my fleetline.

I did get a bit of a pig 1600SP for R2500 that had a knock, but that's the luck of the draw I guess.
