Re: Feeler: Ford V4 motor with Beetle adaptor plate
I cant believe that I'm actually saying this but I wouldn't mind putting a v6 into my bug could be lots of fun
How much would that adapter plate cost? How much do you guys thing you would have to spend on a standard 1600tp to get it to have the same amount of power? And surely a V6 wont mind going to 4000rmp with out mods?

Re: Feeler: Ford V4 motor with Beetle adaptor plate
The Ford V6 is a LOT heavier than even a Type 4 ACVW engine.
Also ask yourself what happened to all the Ford V6s; there aren't many around any more. Excessive camshaft wear and non-availability of parts has sent most of them to the scrapyard.

That V6 makes 100kW. Our 2270cc make the same, if not more, if set upright. Mine makes 106kW.

044 heads, engle 120, 44mm IDFs, 96 pass oil cooler, 009 dizzie, Porsche shroud, full flow oil system, 8 doweled lightened fly wheel, Kennedy clutch. Such like. Lots of machining for the sleeves and crank.
I can't remember what the motor cost... lots...
Tony? Ballpark a number?
It is now in normal T1 tin in Gill's bus, in which config it is a lot cheaper. The Porsche shroud is now on the turbo motor for the Razor.

now if you look at that ad...you would see that its a totally refurbed motor for R4500 ...im not saying go put a V6 in an ACVW...im just saying that for such an old engine it was strong reliable.....in their day.

Re: Feeler: Ford V4 motor with Beetle adaptor plate
My boet's father-in-law had a 2 litre V4 in a beach buggy (same shape as Big-Toe). I drove it a couple of times, it was fun. Don't know much more about it.

Re: Feeler: Ford V4 motor with Beetle adaptor plate
But the fact of the matter is when you put a water cooled motor in any air cooled its not longer a air cooled car so for now I am still going to stick to my trust worthy air cooled motor with a few extras to make it a little more fun even if it cost 4 times the price.

Re: Feeler: Ford V4 motor with Beetle adaptor plate
My mum had a V4 Corsair when I was at school. What a heap of
it was, constantly breaking down, leaking all sorts of fluids, making strange noises and smoking even more than Mum. The only interesting parts of the car were the 8-track player and the slot under the dash for playing 7" singles - really cool and unseen these days. I wouldn't recommend the engine though - Ford stopped making them for good reason.

Re: Feeler: Ford V4 motor with Beetle adaptor plate
Went to go and have a look at the engine this past weekend, what a rubbish of an engine.
Was standing outside for many years, probably seized as It doesn't want to turn over.
I decided not to take it, got a complete Golf 2E motor instead
