How does one fix a dodgy choke?

New carb, less than 2000 miles on it and starting in the morning is a bitch. It's blatantly obvious the choke has gone into overdrive, and takes for ever to turn off. The result is a spluttering dub with copious amounts of petrol being thrown around.

I'd disable it if i could as after 30 mins, she's as right as rain.

If it is essentially the same as the Solex, then the thermostat (spring thingy) is in a round housing held down to the side of the carb by a ring with three screws. When the engine is cold (thermostat-spring-wire-thingy has not had electricity going through it for a long time) i.e. the choke is on (the butterfly is closed) loosen the screws and turn the housing anti-clockwise (opening the butterfly) until the butterfly is still JUST closed, almost-almost (that ampertjies-ampertjies in English) starting to open and then tighten the screws again. Obviously you gotta be looking down the throat of the carb...

I hope this is right, it's what I've always done and it's always worked for me. I'm no carb expert.

No the wheelbase after a straight axle conversion is the same because you use long shafts and extended axle tubes.

The question thus remains...

Use any type 3 box and shafts they are shorter and have bigger drums !!!!!!!!!!!

Looks like the T2D kit has adjustable spring plates. Imagine you would have to "un-lower" it before removing the wheel...
Staying Aircooled is so much nicer.

Hi R&G I know what you mean, and no there is no solution i have made a "tool" that locates on the spring plate to force it down in order to get dem wheels off.Its stashed in the back of my bus but im still hopefull not to have to change a rear on a trip

Spoke to Paul Medhurts of T2D, he says the adjustable spring plate help as you can lower them. Sounds like a pain in the hynie to me... Get a flat, end up having to readjust your suspension...

Can someone please explain why one should NOT have petrol filter in the bay? Been reading of a fella who had a fire in the compartment.

Just in case you wondering, last year l heeded the common warning and stashed my filter under, but l never realy got to know WHY. I have seen bugs with filters in the bay, which means they survived 30+ years!

You shouldnt have a fuel filter in youre ENGINE bay,the preasure from youre petrol pump may blow the filter out the fuel hose,or the hose clamps could come lose and the filter falls out and pumps fuel all over youre engine,...its no secret that youre dizzy shoots sparks everywhere when the motor is running and that the hot exhaust manifolds are really easy to get to.....you should have youre filter neatly tucked away outside the engine bay, underneath the car or in the wheel arch,..out of harms way,....and check youre fuel lines regulaly, dont use braded hoses either,..the weav hides cracks, steel lines arent that good either, because of the movment of the engine,if you do use steel fuel lines have short pieces of regular rubber fuel hose on the ends, where ever they connenct to the engine....always carry a fire extinguisher in youre acvw... and drive safe.Happy motoring.

I have reached a stage where I need guidance from the OG Brigade. How do I respond to this without loosing my faith, cos the next time someone utters these words, I think I am goin to FLIP!
