Hi, what tig welder did you use?

I didn't use a tig, I have a mig welder. I had to be very careful as if I welded for too long it would burn holes, even on a very low setting. I used thicker steel for the repair panels and focused the weld more on those than the original steel which burns wholes very easily.

Hi and what mig welder? would you prefer a mig above arc welder?

Finally, a bit of an update.
Picked up this single cab yesterday from Klipheuwel. Bought it for its 1600 twinport motor.







It had been standing for quite a long time as the owner did not know what was wrong with it. Took it back home and started to look what was wrong. Turned out just to be a faulty starter motor. Put a spare one in and got it started. Turns out to run quite well. It has also had a new clutch installed and new HT leads.
The only part that is not so happy is the generator, it’s charging fine but there is play in the shaft and sounds as if a bearing is not happy.
So the plan is to take the 1600 motor for my fleetline and install a spare 2L motor in the single cab. Then find another home for the single cab, perhaps, because it is incredibly rotten. It has loads of sheet metal and body filler covering it.

I am going to take a week leave some time to finish spraying the body of the fleetline. It really isn’t that far away. It still looks the same as I last posted. Just been gathering some parts I needed for it over the last few months. So hopefully soon I will have some real progress pic's.

Just a question, did the fleetlines come standard with an alternator as it’s a 1975 model?
Also, is the tinware on the motor the same as a beetle for a split bus, the 1600 I now have has baywindow tinware but it seems it is only the front and back sections that differs.

Then I am going to find an alternator for it. I really hate generators. I have always had issues with the damn things.

Another question, what is the correct tyre size for a fleetline. Mine has got the correct 14" rims but it has three different tyre sizes on it. Is it perhaps the same as the Baywindow with 185/80 R14?

Beetlefanatic, I hope you not admiring this single cab, It is hideously rotten. It's chassis frame, sills, floor pan is almost non existent it is so rotten. I just bought it for the engine for my Fleetline, it was a good price.

It doesn't look bad from a distance as it had some terrible attempt at being resprayed. As you said, this is just a fine example of how misleading pictures can be. This guy must have used a drum of body filler. It is just loaded on everywhere. It is a real pitty about it, it still drives ok.
