Great weekend

Post by van Zyl »

Morning all,
Had the most amazing weekend!! We (wife and 2 girls) drove “Trapsoeitjies” (my 72 late bay) all the way to Lambertsbay and back to Montagu for a reunion of my ’82 grade 12 class. We did almost 850km without any problems. We averaged 80 km / h and had regular coffee stops. What a drive, what a weekend and what a Kombi

There's nothing better than touring in a VW bus.

So where are the pics? :hangloose:

Straight after work on Friday past, got home, changed my shoes, loaded the Bus (73 Bay) and wife, baby, camp got and all the other million and one things we normally dont need, and made our way to our holiday house in Langebaan. Boy was I knackered, but the bus ran as good and quite as always, and she really loves driving at night in the cooler air. Left home at 18h20, got to Langebaan at 19h50, averaging about 95 - 100 kph, used just under 1/4 tank off loaded our stuff and had a good break...(Read: slept whenever humanly possible for as long as possible).... did not even touch the fishing gear...

Left for Cape Town again on Monday at 16h30 arriving home at 18h00... Nothing beats your VW bus on a road trip however long or short...

Sorry for the hijack but I couldn't resist posting these.

A few of the best holidays we've had in Betty.

Overnighting at Three Sisters in the Karoo on the way to Hermanus in Dec 2009. That day we hit 39Deg through the Karoo.

I hope we can all create nice memories like this next year. :drunks: :burp:

Are you wanting to join in? I haven't planned anything for December as I'm taking leave in January but, if you're going to be around, maybe we can organise a Kult weekend to Mountain Sanctuary or similar. A number of people have expressed interest in this.

Anyone else interested? How about 16-19/12?

I am planing a trip down to the coast in the Bay. But as by the time I get back she wont have turned a wheel for a around seven months then this should be a great trip to do a shake down. So Yes I would be very keen for the weekend !!

mmmm.... some beers, a braai and a hoard of VW's - sounds like a plan ! :hangloose:

Will be coming from JHB and looking to extend my current travels so not set as yet. Maybe do a back road trip down to South Coast Durban via Sterkfontein and Drakensburg - then swing around through the Cape. Just thoughts for now - dont know what hurdles will be awainting for me on my return. :D

Sounds awesome man. Was also in Durbs in my Westy last year, drove down the east coast, PE, EL and all that, also South Coast, Drakensburg, took a long drive back to the Cape with my wife, stopped at all the small towns, Free State, Karoo, etc. Was so cool. Must hook up if you come to the Cape ! In fact that must have been 2 years ago. Last year, my wife's mom phoned from Underburg to "report" she had seen a blue and white split driving through the town and "did I know them"! Turned out to be Christian and Gisela  :hangloose:
