I just checked my lists and the VIN dates the bus to June 1963, near the end of the 63 model year (64 model year stated in August 63).

I photographed that bus at Vaal Ou Wiele this year, but didn't get to speak to the owner.

Ye thanks guys
Yes Got it from Basil but any other info about the PO before Basel

He also told me it was a beetle front bumper but will have a look and check it out as it did look like a bus one to me

The kid only loves the bus and just wants to keep going for a ride but I have to look at the brakes asit is pulling slight to the left

It's a rear bumper from a Beetle 56-66.

Gone past the place that refurbish fire engines today with a friend of mines dad that used to be the fire chief in Primrose so he knew some people there and organized a red rotating light a big spot light for the front of the bus and some short rubber fire hoses
The yard manager will get a mechanic to remove the stuff on monday off the fire engine and I could then collect it next week

Will post some pictures when I get the stuff :D

Thanks Jolas and others re the new 63 bus :D Every one in the familt is smiling ear to ear

Hell thats great news re the fire bits and bobs, my contacts in Dbn seem to have come to nought, don't reply to emails, etc anymore :(
But I have enough to begin with, also a rotating red light, big spot light, and a couple of other bits. It's nice that you have a good bus to start your project off with now. Did you get the VW badge yet ?

Any chance of a pic of the donor fire truck ? I like old fire trucks .........

That was easy, beacon came off a 60's Bedford fire truck, the big spot I found in a scrap yard, but I suspect it
is off a fire truck, the smaller one is your average sized fog light, included to give you an idea in difference of size ...

It's the green Fleetline SC with the wooden dropsides we've built. They're made to come off quickly, the fire "unit" will be made to "slip" on quickly. Just trying to get the pick-up on the system and through road worthy and then take it from there. My blacksmith friend will help me construct the fire"unit". Thats going to take some time, just collecting all the bits for that now. It must have a water tank and pump and be able to do it's job during our fire season. I also want to use it for kids parties and that type of thing

eish, that is a classic pic, throws me back into a quandary : red with white or red with black trim ........................
Has to be the black, bought the paint yesterday.
But the red and white in that pic does look good. And you Bugger, white or the black ?
