Re: Is this worth saving?
Thanks for the input guys!!
Fig - Thanks for the breakdown of the VIN no! I didn't know the baysplit hybrids were made in 1976, I thought they very made in the late 60s for a short while.
It sure is a strange looking van, but the more I look at the pics the more I like it.
The guy wants R3000. I have already got him down to R2900 and hoping to push a little more...
To be honest, I think it's a very good price for the van from what I've read about other vans. My only concern is the paperwork. I'm phoning the traffic department in the morning to find out more about the car.
What if the van isn't on the traffic department's data base? Does that mean it has been scrapped?

I'd say save it, let's face it, there are less of these on the streets these days so you end up with something unique.

JIPPEEEEE!!!!
I got hold of a very helpfull lady at Roodepoort Traffic Department. The van was "scrapped" in 2005 and there is no outstanding payments on it. According to her to register it will be a long process but there shouldn't be any surprises.
I just spoke to the seller. I'm collecting it next weekend!
Soon I will be needing lots and lots of help from you guys!

Congrats Hendriks on the bus

It's not how fast you get there it's how you look when you arrive.

Re: Is this worth saving?
Morning all!
I am collecting my van on Saterday and was wondering what is the best was of transporting it?
- The guy says he towed it and the steering/ brakes worked fine (the steering wheel is currently on the passenger seat???)
- Should I just get a trailer?
- I have a A Frame that ws used on a 1972 beetle. Do any of you know if this will fit to a van?
Thanks

Re: Is this worth saving?
Not having ever used an A-arm I chose the trailer option when I fetched my '71 in the Free State. That worked fine for me but you'll have to do what's best for you. Somebody else here may be able to answer on the suitability of your current A-arm.

Re: Is this worth saving?
Although it costs a bit more and there is the collect and drop off "mission", I have found using a (good condition) trailer is the best.
With an A- Frame it : might not fit, you might discover a problem with the bus in that it can't be towed (seized brakes, buggered wheel bearing, etc, etc), which just messes up your day. Something to help you winch the bus onto the trailer also helps. It's nice to have some help, so Coop's offer could be invaluable on the day.
Take pics dude
Enjoy your bus
